Okay, my motherboard apparently needs a BIOS flash and this is the first time I have needed to do so.

http://www.epox.com.tw/eng/support.php? … amp;type=1

I need the second one down from the TOP.  I saved the file to my desktop.  I was told to open it once, then restart my computer and use the ALT+F2 feature and I should know what to do from there.

Too bad I don't know what to do from there.

It says to insert disk and press enter... what disk?

I'm stumped here.  Can anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance.

There should be a flash utility either on your motherboard's driver CD or that you can download from their website. It should allow you to flash while still in Windows. Install it, then unzip the BIOS file you downloaded, run the flash utility and when it asks, point it to the unzipped BIOS.

Why do you need to flash it?

Something about it doesn't recognize K8 cpu's.  It's a real old motherboard too.

**Support K8 939 dual core CPU.
** Show Sempron 64 bit.
Unless you have either of these, you probably don't need to flash. Is it currently working, or are you in the process of building?

It probably wants a boot disk.  Do you have a floppy drive?

Yeah I have the 3800+ X2 Manchester AMD... It's not fuctioning properly I don't think.  All my programs seem to be running slow/odd.  I e-mailed tech support at ePoX (motherboard company) my question and they said that it needs to be flashed to the latest BIOS.

RTFM. Instructions on how to flash the BIOS should be found in there, because motherboards vary greatly.

The general idea is that your machine boots from a floppy, and an application on the floppy upgrades the BIOS.

Right, I noticed that when I open the BIOS folder which saved to my desktop, that it's only open for a second and then it closes.  I restarted my computer and went to the ALT +F2 screen and it asked to boot from disk or floppy.

I don't have the CD from my motherboard.  Am I screwed because I don't have the CD?

NO, you should be able to download the flash program from the mobo's website.

I already did. Now what exactly do I do with it?

The files inside the folder are as follows:

AWDFLASH.EXE
da3j5a14.bin

There's a program for your board that will automatically update the BIOS, called Magic Flash 2.2. Download it here, last file on the page:

Should be a simple matter of installing it and running it.
