Can you guys recommend some good ones? I used the SONY noise cancelling ear buds, that ones that go in your ear... they were good, but I later on found out the hard way that they have shorting issues. Can you guys recommend something similar to this, within a reasonable price range?

^^^ That's what I used to have.

Stick with the earbuds. They're like earplugs anyway, and you can just turn the music riiiight the way up to drown everyone else out. That oughtta wash out anything below 'deafening'.

Well I take the subway quite often, I live in NYC and its our mode of transportation. And the noisecancelling helps when it comes to getting rid of excess background noise(aside from the people talking and fighting for seats). So in this case, earbuds dont really help out any. And this will be used for music on portable audio. I'm willing to dish out 100 USD.

The QC3 is quite pricey, no?

Thanks for all the recommendations, so far.

I have sonny headphones similar to those but without the cancellation mechanism.
AS the article says...

Their soft, silicon-rubber cushions provide a comfortably snug fit and seal out a lot of ambient noise on their own, without the noise-cancellation circuitry.
I can barely hear any noise except music with them. Only problem is chewing

Maybe you should try just simple headphones without all that rubbish
