Okay I'm gonna build a new computer with the $$ that I got from Christmas and such.

CPU -- http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6819103528

CPU Heatsink -- http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6835118223

MotherBoard -- http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6813131530

Video Card -- http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6814150202

I currently have 2gigs of RAM already. 2X 1gig sticks.  Corsair ValueSelect RAM CAS latency of 3.

I have a Western Digital 320g SATA HD 16mb cache

Backup HD - 200g Maxtor IDE 8mb cache

Can anyone suggest anything?  Better parts for the $$ or something isn't compatible would help out a lot.

Thanks in advance!

There is no reason to use something other than the stock cpu heatsink. Also, going C2D would be a lot better if you could at the moment. What is your budget?

The thing is, there is no stock heatsink on this CPU because it is OEM.

As for my budget... Given that I'm not going to make a final purchase for maybe 2 weeks or so. I'm bound to get some more money in between now and then.  Right now - $400... a few weeks... maybe $550 or so.

Can anyone else verify this?  I'm not judging your knowledge, it's that I hear that the Zalman (which I posted) is the best overall aftermarket heatsink.

Get over your AMD fan boyishness and go for what is best for the money.

And I'm running  a 3400+ right now.

horrible move ftl imo...
this compares your CPU with the E6400 which is more but the lowest C2D was the E6400...

Yeah drop the AMD fanboy shit. My friends insist that AMD is better and everytime I'm like c'mon guys, just look at about ANY benchmarks that have been posted. But that's alright. The machine I'm building will kick both their asses. Put together.

Get a Pentium D if your on a budget. Seriously that AMD procesor you have is shit

if you have such nice ram and other Vid cards, it wont matter if your processor is shit.

Hmm... this is sounding like I'm gonna be spending a lot more than I planned. But that's alright after I thought about it... a lot.

If I'm gonna be spending close to $200 for the 6300, then why not just spend another $30 and get the 6400?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6819115004

Seems better and the ratings are basically identical.  2.13 ghz instead of the 1.8ghz in the 6300.

*EDIT*

I'm guessing my current RAM isn't gonna be compatible with the Intel mobo, right?

I think the ram is compatible but I don't know for sure.

And yeah the 6400 would be better.

Damnit, my RAM won't work with the new board.  Mine is 184 pin, while the Intel board is 240 pin.

This is just getting more and more expensive... I think I may need to get a second job just to get this done.

These kinds of things always get more expensive if you start going for better performance. Personally, that's why I don't buy things online, (no deals). For example, I picked up my 7950 GT 512 for $269 Cdn, THAT's A SHIT LOAD OF SAVINGS. Anyways, you'll want fast ram if ur hoping this rig will last you a while.

here is what I am looking at building right now. Plan on reusing peripherals, case, and psu.

    ABIT AB9 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail  - 124.99
    BFG Tech BFGR76256GTOCE GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video - 143.99 - 65.00 rebate = 78.99
         Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6400 - 220.00
          G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit - 209.99
         Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 70SB073A00000 7.1 Channels PCI - 89.99
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler - Retail - 29.99

All from newegg - grand subtotal of 733.95

now if only I could talk my better half into letting me spend money we dont have.

edit: You could always drop the x-fi card, use the onboard, save ya 90 there, drop to 1 gb ram instead of 2gb, save another 100 there, and use the stock cooler save another 30 there and you are right at around 515.00 usd. still close to the max side of your budget but still within it.

I have The Freezer 64 Pro, and it does use the stock mounting clip. It's also one of the top coolers out there, but especially for the price. It's rather quiet and yet keeps my temps around 40C on a full load. It even comes with AC MX-1 thermal paste pre-applied, which is just as good as Arctic Silver 5.

I hate to go off on a tirade, but how is this helping? He obviously has a set budget for parts, and telling him you think he should upgrade to a CPU which costs $100 more, mobo, video AND memory will likely do nothing for him but cause frustration and confusion.

Not everyone can afford to go out and buy a Conroe and an 8800. It has nothing to do with being a "fanboy." Some of us have families or other financial obligations and have to do the best with what money we have.

Yeah, whatever, you totally missed my point.

Obviously my trying to help isn't appreciated, because I have less Karma points than others.

Being a "fanboy" of AMD is what is what's keeping me within my budget.  I do thank and appreciate all who helped and gave advice.

I don't have a grand at my disposal or else I would be more open to a FULL COMPUTER REBUILD.

I would be forced to sell my entire current system and by the time I get a buyer for the whole thing, or multiple buyers if I parted it out piece by piece... that would take forever.

What interests me is that you've chosen a single core, when it is getting less popular. So, go for a dual 3800+ and you'll be fine. Excellent fan you have chosen though!

Yesterday I had picked out a similar load out. However didnt buy it yet. Mine was as follows.

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6819103588
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813130491
And the same vid card coincidently.

Yeah, I don't like MSI though, I had issues with them on my last motherboard for my Pentium 4 intel rig I had.

I did research on Tomshardware.com and they put the 7900GS to be the best overall video card for ~ $180.00
