I'm a noob, duh, got it, okay. Could someone please explain the timings on the RAM? like 5-5-5-12 or whatever they are.  I'm working on picking out parts for a PC I would like to build and am wondering if these timings are something I should base my decision off of.

Another question about RAM is, are 4 sticks of 512 the same, worse, or better than 2 sticks of 1GB? The motherboard I picked out has 4 slots and allows dual channel and I'm looking at two 1GB sticks right now but I was just wondering...

Sorry if that seemed rushed or some parts didn't make sense, I'm around so just question me if you don't understand.

I don't know much about timings but I believe 2 sticks of 1gb is better then 4 512 sticks.

The lower the number, the better.

512 sticks are cheaper but you wouoldn't be able to upgrade in the future without having to buy all new sticks.

get 2 1gbsticks  so you can upgrade in future, and try to get ram with timings 4-4-4-12 or lower depends on how much you got to spend.

5-5-5-5-12-T1 compared with 4-4-4-4-12 will be much less expensive. 4 is much better. 3-2-3-5 is ultimate.
