Just got a new PC and when I play songs the volume involuntarily goes up and down.

I haven't had a chance to install BF2 yet so I don't know if it does this with games also.

The PC was so expensive, so, I didn't get new speakers with it and I am using my old creative 5.1's.  (I doubt the problem is with the speakers themselves though.

Any ideas on how to fix the aforementioned problem?

Cheers.
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

if you have any kind of sound-check (makes everything run at the same volume, supposedly) running on your drivers/music player, turn it off. if the issue persists, reinstall soundcard drivers from the manufacturers website. if that doesn't help, try the soundcard in a different PCI slot (who knows...) and then reinstall drivers again.

if none of that fixes it, someone else might have a superior idea to my humble opinions.

First of all, check to make absolutely sure that it isn't your current speakers that are playing up by plugging in some headphones or spare speakers. If nothing is actually wrong with the speakers you have plugged in now, follow Whiskey's advice.
