You mean the jumper? Those are sooo cheap lol. You can buy like 100 of them for a few dollars.

I haven't made any real costly mistakes yet, and I hope to keep it that way.

I was playing about with the little red switch on the back of the PSU to see what it did (230v ~ 130v or something) and it went with a loud crack and shortly after, smoke started coming out of the PC. Never touched the little red thing since.

The most costly mistake I ever made?

God forbid you fail to meet your monthly maintenance costs on an expensive woman.

I remember in the Steam forums years ago someone took "disable your onboard video chip before installing your new video card" a bit too literally and proceeded to stab his motherboard with a screwdriver untill the chip was destroyed enough that he was sure it was disabled.

heh, classic

Few years ago when I was sleeving my PSU cables to clean up my interior, I accidentally sleeved a molex splitter wrong and accidentally swapped the 5V wire with the 12V. The wires on my PSU were color coded, so it was easy to distinguish, and I tested everything before hooking stuff back up, but forgot to test the splitter.

Zapped an 80GB HD and a DVD-ROM drive.

Powered on and heard a loud POP, and smelt smoke.

I about had to change my underwear lol....

the worst thing i did was i screwed in a 120mm case fan while my computer was running and the fan was spinning at full speed and cut my thumb pretty deep for plastic fins. My thumb burned for the rest of the week.

Only time I've ever had something go tits-up on me was with a MSI mobo that had bad capacitors. SOB waited until 2 weeks after the warranty expired to kick the bucket.
