I really suck hard nuts trying to fly with mouse and keyboard. HOTAS Joystick FTW.
I use both joystick when im flying jets, m/k when im flying heli.
Straight keyboard for helos, joystick for planes.
can't seem to get my dual analog to work, but I use the keyboard+mouse, it's easy.

Game pad does me fine.
I dont even know if I could fly the gunship with a joystick.

Joystick, keyboard & mouse combination...
My left hand flies around my desktop while I'm in an air vehicle
VERY sharp turn, steady throttle, and precision flying for Joystick
Radio Command, Precision aiming, and all other random crap on keyboard & mouse.
Took some time to get used to using three different input devices at once, but it is not bad once you get used to it.
