Just a simple question.
I saw some people sayin in this thread: http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=26220 that having 2GB of RAM is faster than having 4, is this true & if so how?
Was just gonna order another 2GB but I wanted to see if I could get an answer first.

4GB of ram is overkill anyways..

windows 32 bit doesn't recognize more than 3 gigs of ram, atleast with my mobo. So i'm waiting for vista before i get another 2 gigs. I kknow for sure that windows xp professional 64bit will support all the 4 gigs.

I know if it's different speeds the faster sticks will downgrade to match the slower ones or something weird like that so that'll slow it down or something I guess.
I mean 4 basically identical sticks with same timing & everything.

2gb is plenty what are you gonna use the extra 2gb for its basicly a waste of money

Windows XP only supports up to 3.99GB of RAM. If you have 4GB you can set it to 3.99 in the BIOS. I wouldn't go as far as to say 4GB < 2GB. But I will say 4GB < 3.99GB.

Nothin, I just wanna be able to tell everyone that I have 4GB of RAM

Nah, the majority of my income right now is coming from my photography/digital imaging work & if Photoshop can use it then it'll get used. If that's the only program that can use it though I probably won't get any more.
It doesn't make any difference at all with games?

When you get over 2GB you won't see a difference in games, for now at least - Vista is coming. I believe Photoshop will happily use 4GB though.

i was taught that windows only supports 3.75 gig's.  this was something Microsoft nerfed with sp2. sp1 should run a full 4 gig's. lots of apps need sp2 to run correctly . if your mobo supports dual channel memory heres how it works

one 1 gig stick = single channel
two 1 gig sticks = dual channel
three 1 gig sticks = single channel
four 1 gig sticks = 3.75 seen by windows = single channel ( the other .25 is used as virtual memory)

Some people have said that 4  512 MB sticks of memory perform better than 2  1 gig sticks of memory.
I have never tested this but it dose make sense. 512 should open up more "lanes"  for memory bandwidth.

You might know this but, you can tell photoshop the ammount of ram you want to dedicate to ti while running the program.

So, if you get 4GB, you can assign 2 to PS, and leave 2 for any other applications while running the program.

Once you close PS, you'll get all of it for whatever you want.

It's because of windows... Wait till vista, and get 64bit, it can properly support 8gb of ram. Windows XP max is 4gb...

I had 4, but I pulled 2 out and I personally prefer 2.

It does since SP2 I think. It just dedicates a gig to Virtual memory.(You may be able to rewrite your pagefile to adjust)

64 bit or Vista would be the way to go if you have the extra memory anyways.
