I hope anyone can help me with this problem.

When I join a BF2 server,, my PC seems to crash after 2 seconds.
But when I create my own server it works fine.

I have the same problem with BF42 now,, and I've got both games legal.

I've updated windows, motherboard drivers etc.

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)
MOBO: Gigabyte 7VAXP
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.1GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM

Card name: RADEON 9800 PRO
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: RADEON 9800 PRO AGP (0x4E48)

BF2 and BF42 used to work on this, than I got another motherboard that later broke down, so I used this one again.

Maybe it's something with Punkbuster, I've got that updated too with BF42 and BF2.

Thanks,,

But you say it does not do this in single player ... Are there any clues in the application  event log (start->settings->control panel->administrative tool->event viewer).

But it would not hurt to just update your vid drivers to start

I dont know whats causing the problem, but if you have the option, I would upgrade, NOW, that processor is sad, you really should go get a E6600 or so. My grandmother got a computer already built thats twice as good as that for 329$ You got a good amount of RAM though a new processor, vid card, mobo(Im guessing that it cant take PCI-E, and power supply if its under 400watts.

Normally people who don't have a new computer dont want one and if they do they would ask for advice. You'd think if he had the money he would have updated you also picked a CPU which probably costs more then his whole current PC....

Thanks for the replies

well,, it always worked perfectly on these settings (medium graphics) so that's not the problem.

I have everything scanned, upgraded,, everything, I will try to uninstall the current ATI drivers I have and see if it works with some older ones.

When UT2007, Huxley etc comes out I will upgrade my PC (mobo, vid card, CPU, memory)

same problem with old ATI graphic drivers.
I also tried to uninstall codec packs because some games have problems with that.

Last try is to see if non-punkbuster servers will work.

edit: Still restarts my PC on non-punkbuster servers.
