Can the AMD 3800+ X2 utilize DDR2? even though AM2 mobo's are DDR2 compatible.

Wrong section can this please get moved (im having some sort of an internet glitch it says that my browser is reading 3900 pages ATM and has put them all together it has wiped out all the words on linked things and thus it was a guess as to what thread I was posting on after reset I noticed this)

no, it can only use DDR

I was actually wondering the opposite: could an Intel Conroe put up with OCZ Platinum RAM ? (DDR 400) been using it on an AMD system for a while now and don't want to upgrade it just yet

You are sure about this? If I used DDRII anyway would it still work. And its the AM2 3800+ 64 X2...

Answered my own question AM2 AMD's can utilize DDRII were you thinking of socket 754's?

AM2 are designed to use DDR2

The original 939 x2 could only use DDR

Ok just to finish it off will it use 667DDRII or only 800DDRII

It can use both speeds. 800 is just better RAM.

This should be in tech btw.

You get memory leaks from buggy programs, not from your hardware. Have you tried a reinstall? What is the spec of the computer?

I beleive I get memory leaks from my hardware I was told by an AMD techy because my 3000+ runs too hot I dont even overclock it and have thermal paste it runs at about 60C idle and 80C load which is overlimit 5 more degrees and it overheats. Ive had Ram memory leaks with my old windows ME and trust me this is something different and has to do with the ability of my processor not being able to keep up with my PC. I run 4 PC's in my house 1 for gaming 1 for work 2 for servers. My oldest PC is the P3 server PC from 1999 even though I had some PC from 1995 (fried this one I slid the red button in interest. So id like to think I'd know what certain parts of the PC do and this is definately the CPU everything else runs fine. This is an indication that my CPU is about to die from what I know or is going to die unless I somehow magically fix it.  Id give it 6 months at max but my XP 2000+ (server) has lasted me 3-4 years even when I thought it was going to die. Ive also checked my HDD which is also working properly Ive also used my diagnosing programs its the CPU 99.9% sure. But im not too worried this is becoming the next work PC or a server whichever I'd like it to be and am replacing this with

3800+ 64 X2
1 Gig of ram 667 DDR2
300GB HDD SATAII
7600GT

and this being

2000+ AMD XP
512mb 133MHZ DDR
80GB ATA/133
9600XT

Check your heat sink is seated correctly? You don't have too much thermal paste on do you? Maybe get someone whose done it before to check it for you - don't take this personally, but I don't know how much experience you have with seating the heat sink properly -  make sure you have the minimum necessary amount of thermal paste on, too much works against you rather than helps. What heatsink fan have you got on there? Maybe it might be worth getting a new one? You can pick up a decent one for not much money.

Ive had plenty of experience making computers all of my current ones of made myself and ive also done my neighbours computers which puts it all together ive made 1 2000+ 1 2400+ 1 2600+ all 3 of those are similar to my 3000+ as well as the P3 which i had and the other PC I had it was a P2 or somethin like that 300MHZ that had some switch which changed it to 400MHZ (did nothing really). I do know how to apply thermal paste I havent had this problem on any other PC's. I do know AMD runs hot but I also know its not supposed to run this hot. I am not interested in fixing up this computer even though I might take it to the tech to get it tested out for other problems I dont have the time ATM building my other machine which I should get all the parts by the 2nd or the 3rd. I think I just got sold a bad CPU or something of the sort but it really hasn't bothered me up until now and in a few days this is going to turn into a PC that could easily be replaced by a P3 all im going to do is work on it or use it as a server running Linux I might even underclock it if the tech cant do anything. Ill possibly end up getting a more effective heatsink and possibly 2 or 3 more fans I guess its a waste of money but I guess buying a new computer to replace this would be a bigger waste.

Would you not think that I have PC experience after using them for 11 years? Then again I was 15 when I got my first PC I guess its still enough to be able to understand them. And dw I know you dont know my experience I could have done better to explain that I built machines from 15 years.

Maybe this has already been said, but basically if you have a x2 3800 with a socket 939 board, then you can only use DDR, but if you have a 3800 with an AM2 board then yes DDR2 would be the best.

Also, if you've done everything right as far as seating the heatsink and everything, you may want to consider getting a better fan than the one it comes with. It'll be at most $35, which is a lot cheaper than getting a new system.

LOL ive never purchased a full PC in my life and I especially wouldn't purchase a DELL. From what ive heard from 2 13 year olds in a forum Dell sucks if 2 13 year olds who probly play runescape say Dell sucks ill say I wont touch a Dell PC with a 10 foot pole. And yeah of course im buying a AM2 mobo AM2 Chips dont fit in with socket 939 motherboards an AM2 Chip has 940 pins opposed to a 939's 939. Also the pin placement is different. Now im not sure if the motherboard is somehow compatible with both but I wouldn't even try to do it.

And if 2 13 yr olds in a forum told you Dell rocked would you buy one?

Point is they don't know what they are talking about... the Dell XPS line is actually pretty good. Also their budget line isn't bad either...

Of course it's cheaper to build your own but still Dell isn't that bad.

Hmmm if they told me to buy one Id say no thanks I build my own PC's but they do seem to know what they are talking about. These are the 13 year olds which spend all their holidays behind a monitor and have no life what so ever. Then again their PC's are 1-2 years old LOL, yeah still wouldn't trust em though even though they have no life ive lived 2 times longer then them and thus must have spent at least over the amount of time that they have.

Well most of their facts are pretty good I even knew a 15 year old who had knowledge as good as some of the pilots I fly with I was really suprised by this. But then again the thing against them is that they are really childish and with the 13 year olds being in the same teamspeak server I normally have to mute them with the crap they talk about, but really dont know jack all about it such as the war in Iraq etc etc and they really just don't know what it is like. They have never seen a dead body etc and they are all like hell yeah I can kill someone easily so this might discredit them in some points. Anyways Dell is made by Satan its in that movie with that actor about that bank robbery which they virtually do using computers. Heck if I could remember his name or the name of the movie id say so, But the bank computers are Dell's.

Hint sarchasm

Yeah apparently all AM2 Chips can according to AMD at least :s

Yeah as long as it's socket AM2 it'll take DDR2. Thats why the socket type was created, it was just to get AMD away from ye olde DDR.

Dell is not made by Satan Dell is made by Taiwanese people in factories lol

But yeh I wouldn't base anything off of a 13 yr olds opinion... Hell I'm 15 and I don't blame people if they don't take my advice although I (usually) know what I'm talking about when it comes to technology.
