I had the same problem yesterday when I bought a new headset, this worked for me:
If it's a problem with your in game VOiP it could be 2 things, the windows mic setting or the BF2 settings.
For windows setting:
Control Panel > Sounds and Audio devices properties > Volume tab. Click on the Advanced button.
In the new window that comes up (the "Volume Control" window) make sure the microphone volume is on full and mute is NOT checked. If you don't see the microphone volume control go into the options menu and select properties, check the box next to microphone and click OK. Also in the options menu make sure "Advanced Controls" is checked. Click on the "Advanced" button under the microphone control and check the "MIC boost" box.
For BF2 settings:
In the audio options there is a check box for boost (fourth down on the right hand side). Make sure that is on.
Edit: BTW, you might not need to have both boosts on at the same time, mine's now working with just the windows boost.

try adjusting the angle between your mouth and the mike.. I had the same problem, and I moved the mike 1 cm - problem solved.
The main problem is most likely your sound drivers. I had the same trouble with onboard sound (Intel mobo, woho) and after I had updated my drivers it worked a little better. Still, I can't get those fascinating results, but it's rather your sound device than your mic.
PS: Of course, mic boost will help quite a lot.
