You and a friend, are walking down the street when you meet an older couple with a bag of money. The older couple makes the following offer: We wish to give the two of you $100,000 if you can decide how it should be decided between the two of you in the next 3 minutes. You say, "So, dude, what do you say? How about fifty thousand dollars each". To your dismay, your friend answers, "Gee, I'm really sorry, but my mother needs an expensive operation. So, I'll take eighty thousand dollars and you can have twenty thousand. I won't settle for anything less!"
What do you do? Insist on an even split at the risk of getting nothing or take the $20,000 and be happy?

Is he actually telling the truth? If he was a good friend he would have told you before. Thus im assuming he isnt that good a friend and is possibly lieing, thus insist on an even split.

If he's a friend, you should be able to trust them. If he's a relatively good friend, you should know if his mother really does need an operation. I'd take the $20k if he really needs the money. Hell, either way, it's $20k more than I started the day with.

Why is he out for a night on the town when his mom is deathly in need of a surgery? Why doesn't she have insurance? Is she Canadian? isn't healthcare there government controlled or something so everyone has health care? does she have free health care? can she get it? can we see pics of his mom? why isn't his dad helping pay for this? does he have siblings? does his mom? Is there a rich uncle somewhere? is she old? because if so, just let her die already. There's too many variables for me to vote on this poll and feel good about my vote.

If he is telling the truth, and as mentioned  above, you would know if he is a good friend. Then take the $20,000.

If he is not telling the truth, I'd say "What a coincidence, my Mum needs an expensive operation as well. Fifty Fifty old bean."

I'd take the 20 grand. If my mate were lying I'd just argue with him or beat him the fuck up later once his claim proved to be false. If it turned out to be true than I'm quite content with 20 grand.
