wtf is going on with my computer?

ok so far ive had 3 viruses on this computer, 3 times, i System Restored it, and now its just acting wierd, right now on my desktop, nothing shows up, nothing, just my Desktop backround, i ran this browser, from task manager just so you know. Whats going on? And how can make things show up on my desktop again? I get a feeling my computer is going to fall apart soon. Here are the specs

HP Pavillion, 1.5GB of ram, 3800+ AMD Athlon, 64x2 Processor, ATi Radion Xtasy x550 or something like that, PCIE

Is explorer.exe showing up under your running processes?

bring up the task manager and click run, type 'explorer" this will bring up your active desktop (what you are missing)

download and install rouges can fix from here: http://martijnc.be/blog/roguescanfix/
run it (probably one of the best spy ware/virus killers out there).
When it finishes it will bring up a uninstaller called brute force. Click the execute button and then restart.
This should kill any spy ware/viruses you have that a major program like Norton wont pick up.

Bigmack, i dont have any viruses, i had them in the past and the way i got rid of them is reformat everything

sometimes i get no desktop if my pc freezes and i need to end something through task manager but it comes back in about 10 seconds

yeah but you need working contreception for your pc :E
when scanning for/removing virus turn off sytem restore, turn it back on later. your anti virus wont get rid of it properly if you have it in an infected restore point.
Norton is crap, it doesnt pick anything up compared to the others, AVG is crap also.

before you Norton and AVG users start defending them go here http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
do a free online scan.

I use adaware-pro, adwatch and ca antivirus (free for 12 months, google it) not the best antivirus out there but it does find stuff and kill it.
every so often I use the housecall just to be sure.

there is your problem don't use system restore the first rule, of trying to get rid of the virus this is especially true if you use windows XP. Yeah dont download porn(those 15 sec samples) you can get a lot of viruses like that, hack it then no viruses at all.

can someone tell me how to do a system restore in windows to an earlier date have some spyware (anti vermin), prolly a porn site i accidentally came across, not literally !?! or maybe theres a better way of getting rid without spending money
