If you have acess to "nitrogen" you can scare the hell out of him. Fill up a Pet flask with it and make sure you put the cork on hard and hide it in his basket or something ( there will be a quite loud explosion and the flask will fly off with quite a speed., therefore make sure to use it "safe" like in a basket.
It will take some time for it go off so don´t start to eyeball it after a couple of minutes if it has´nt explode.
Edit: you should be careful with it don´t put it in your underwears when you have put the cork on, or hold it in your hands etc.
