Right, Im sure some of you are pretty pro at making films. I used fraps at 45fps to record at half size. The vids look great, but as soon as I take them into Windows Movie Maker the res is changed and it looks bad. Anyone got some advice?

Is this actually inside Moviemaker, or when the movie is produced?

The movie does look crap during production... but after it has been produced it shouldnt look as bad

That's only the preview within WMM. After you save it'll look much better.

For yourself save as .AVI, that makes the largest files but good quality.

For posting online you should follow the guideline suggestions for saving (on YouTube it's MPEG 4, 30 FPS, 320x240) I stopped using Movie Maker after the first day though, so I don't know if it can save MPEG4 video by default. But no matter what you do uploading to YouTube will make the video look like complete crap, so if you want people to see better what you've done you'll need to also upload the video to a file host like FileFront or RapidShare. Anyone interested can then download the video to their hard disk to watch it locally, without double compression to worry about.

if I could make a tip, is to never half size. Make a seperate account that runs at 800 x 600 or 640 x 480 if you must, and use that. Also, only use 45 fps if you know you will. AND ONLY FOR THAT BIT..

Unfortunately you are locked into using wmv for your format, so I can't really give you much advice there. Needless to say, the normal workflow is save a full uncompressed avi, then use virtual dub to do your compression magic.

Wicked, this helped me too

Now to figure out why fraps freezes my computer for 10-20 seconds at random intervals then becomes un-usable until i restart.....
