this one is marginally faster:

but you wont notice any difference.

and as it says the other set (the red ones) are significantly tested in pairs, whilst the white ones dont say that, then I'd go for the red ones and save myself a few bucks.

Are you replacing your current RAM with this, or adding it in?  Plus the differences in performance really can barely be noticed, I doubt e.g one will load up 2142 anymore than a half a second quicker.  I agree also with Sk, the red ones are tested in pairs, and you can spend that $10 on sweets   Red pair me thinsk to

Is it better to have high or low cas latency?

Low.

I wouldn't go for the red ones. Since you're buying DDR memory I assume you are running an AMD CPU. AMD CPUs have onboard memory controllers which means latenices make more of a difference on AMD systems. Spend a bit more and get the ones with better latency.

Low latency DDRII modules are not worth the extra money, DDR ones are.

but a latency of 2.5 and 2 isn't going to make any noticable difference...
not even with benchmarking tools would I expect to see any difference.

The paired set are more likely to give you better "performance" than two "untested together" sticks with lower latency, simply because they've been tested and found to be a great match for each other.....

> Opinions will probably vary greatly here, but all the computer-knowledgable people I know personally all say Corsair, and not just any Corsair but the XMS is best if you are certain about wanting DDR-400,or needing 184-pin for your current board. It will run in practically anything, especially if you don't know enough yet to overclock it yourself and just let the BIOS detect it. The only exception to this is possibly for the highest-end Crucial,Geil, and OCZ stuff, and you might pay double for that. Here is a link to some that will come in shipping and all about 80 bucks over the limit he set for you,but saving your allowance or not blowing money on the weekend for a month or so will generate the difference.

Here is a link for the same set at ZipZoomFly with a 40.00 rebate.

Hope this helps,Tommy D.

I completely disagree. I reckon you'd get a boost of about 2-3%, potentially greater if overclocking. That's a better speed increase than using an AM2 alternative with DDR2 memory would acheive.

The fact that they are tested together is completely irrelevant as well. They are identical matched modules, they will work in dual channel mode. It's not a manufacturer I would go with though.

Go with the lower latency kit. I checked them both out when I was looking for new ram and according to the reviews I saw the Value Series overclocked better than the other set.

I'd say for most of the people regularly clocked RAM does the job aswell.
$70 more just for some little kick in performance doesn't pay off, I think.

But as you've already made up your mind anyway, that advice is kinda worthless ^^
