Punkbuster Problem

My roommates have seen me play bf2 several times & finally decided to get the game, well their computer was a little old so they got a brand new one to play bf2.
They installed the game & went to play for the first time & it kicked them soon as they got in with a message something to the effect of global ban.
Since they have never played before I'm sure it's an install problem but I haven't gotten the chance to look at it yet. I will this Sunday , just wondering if there was a fix out there for this , i searched punkbuster but didn't find anything really relating to this problem.
They have tried several different servers with all the same results...
I will try a reinstall , patch , & not updating the punkbuster this time & see what happens, I might buy them special forces to throw something new into the mix, but it's puzzling to me since they have never even played the game.

where did they buy the game, did they buy just a cd key from ebay or something???? could be a banned account

Even if it is a legit copy, it could still, potentially, be a banned CD-Key (if someone miscreant used a key-gen to generate the key of your unfortunate roommates copy)...

Have you updated Punkbuster?

EDIT; Just did a check and there are a few updates on punkbuster.
www.punkbuster.com, select BF2 from the list, download update,
run update.

I seem to remember i was getting kick by punkbuster once i got patch 1.41,
i updated it and never had another problem.

yeah they updated punkbuster after it did that to them but still the same results.
The game was bought at best buy brand new.

It sounds like a key-gen-ban problem to me. They/you should contact EA. They'll want proof (possibly for you to send them the packaging/manual) that it's a legit copy, but they should send you/your mates a new CD-key, and if they don't you/they should quote consumer law at them...

one of my fellow clan members has a similar problem, but his always kicks him and says punkbuster kick cd key already registered to another player. He also bought a box copy. Hes emailed EA, so ill let you know what they do to see if they will help him.
