speaking as someone with both, i would deffinetely say buy the sf, its freaking awsome, then when you get bored of it in 5 or 6 months, buy 2142 for probably like 30, about the rest of the original 50 bucks. Both for the same price.

I got very sick of 2142 very fast. It only took me a bit over a 100 hours to get Brig General. If I were buying one, i'd buy SF for the simple fact you get the weapons in vanilla, plus bf2 has infantry only. I dislike 2 maps in SF, where in 2142 I really only like 2 maps.
Ok, I have to say there is a lot missing in that 2142 demo because it sucked. Assault gets med-kits, but can't revive anybody? I was throwing med-kits down at my dead teammates saying "Sorry, I dont know how to revive you." I played the demo for about an hour here. I picked a server with 8 people in it to get practice, then after 3 rounds it started getting filled up. 32 in all. I found it was hard to kill a guy with my freakin gun.
Not very accurate the future is hmmmm...
The whole running around capturing missile silos was shit. I decided to hold one for a change, and I found about 3-4 different idiots came along in buggies or air transports, to try and retake it. Ramming Walkers and tanks with air transports was abundant...Team kills were all over the place....I guess maybe its the demo, and people don't care. Surprising I was ranked 1st or 2nd on that server...Although we didn't win a single round....Out of about 5 I played. Im sure its much better with friends, and you have people who know the game, who join your squad, and work together maybe. That didn't happen in this server. Not on our side! I think there were people on the other team who had the game already, knew it, and decided to make it shitty for our team.
The game was fun I'd give it a 7 so far. But like someone said there are a lot of unlocks that make it good. I did like how u have different weapons for each class.
The walkers do suck. Every time I faced a tank I lost....I guess there are weak points on all units...Maybe I'm just missing something? The anti-ground missiles or whatever didn't work. And you can't out run a tank because the walker is SLOW. So if you see a tank I guess its game over for your walker. The tanks are fun though. Armor has always been a favorite of mine.
When people breached the hull of our Titan, when I went back there to find em, it was nothing but a maze. There were four different levels I think...So when something gets destroyed I just started running around to that level looking for guys, but there were 4 of them together...And nobody even teamed up on our side lol. So every time they did breach the hull with missiles, it was over.
I do understand this game is very different then BF2, and over time people will pick it up, figure out tricks, and how to get around the ship easily.
I have fun 90% of the time in BF2, so I'm sticking with what makes me happy =P

Doesnt matter if you have a UAV and a fucking helmet that shows you where enemies are XD
Instead of tanks raping bases, you know have walkers which uber pwn anyone of foot.
APC's are VERY effective against Infantry in BF2, maybe you just suck too much to notice it.
Doesnt matter if you get one point a kill when you can make it to general in a month XD

SF, i got mine very cheep, 2142 is expensive and it's just another bf2 mod
