G'day,

Well i'm using a computer screen thats about...7-8 years old. Its just a normal glass 19" one.
My computer is in my room, and directly behind me is a window, which glares pretty badly on the screen. I can shut the blind, but still the sun coming through the edges of the blind is annoying on the screen, and sometimes puts me off when playing...
Do LCD screens minimize window glare?

its my understanding that sunlight isnt the best thing for LCD screens over time....

Its not direct sunlight, 95% of the time the blind is closed when i'm on the computer so it doesnt annoy.

An LCD won't glare near as much as a CRT. One good way to minimize glare is to have the monitor set at a 90º angle to the window.

LCD's are much durable and longer lasting than those plasma's and their tiny bubbles filled with electrically charged gasses..lol
Even the Television market is dropping plasma's and moving to LCD's. Hopefully the LCD prices will come down closer to what the plasmas are.

i would seriously consider just rearranging all the furniture in the room so that the monitor gets minimal glare. a lot of people do this for their TVs, it is just convenient. but with that said, fast flatscreens are dope so u should get one and tell your parents or whoever sweats you that you need one to prevent glare. i have a samsung syncmaster i think it might be the coolest thing i own.

edit: coolest thing other than my secret stash

My LCD has no reflections at all.

I had a flat-screen CRT for a while and it was great. It had virtually no reflections even though my windows were bright. CRTs have better picture quality than LCDs and they are comparable in price so I would get a flat-screen CRT if possible. They are heavy, though, and probably not as durable as LCDs.

My LCD (LG btw) doesn't glare at all either, most probably because I got no light source directly shining onto it.
If I use a lamp (yes, it's dark outside, right now for me), it only lights wall an ceiling, which also gives my room a nice, warm atmosphere, perfect for gaming.

If you, however suffer from light coming through a window, try it like this, works perfectly well for me in two rooms, including mine (the one with that specific lamp).

You will then not get direct reflections into your eye (hopefully) but only reflections of reflections.
The distance you have to keep from your screen, however, also depends on how much your screen is actually bend (since you don't have a flat screen CRT.

By the way: with the setup shown above, sucky viewing angles of your screen are history since it can only be viewed within 90° or slightly more

tfts still reflect some light, not as much and its more dispursed but its noticable enough to cause problems seeing whats happening over the whole screen.
