I have just hooked up a DVD drive for my mom(and it was in a microATX Dell Dimension 4300S(crappy school desktop Dell), what an accomplishment, lol).  While I was hooking it up, I decided to take the CD audio cable and plug it into the Ensoniq ES1370 sound card I installed a couple of months ago instead of the motherboard which was currently plugged into.  The thing is, the sound card has 3 different plugs for that type of thing:

The 1st one says:

J6-CD
AUDIO IN                  Confusing

The 2nd one says:

J7-TV TUNER
   -IDE
   -SONY CD IN          Confusing

The 3rd one says:

J8-TAD I/O               Obviously this one is for the input/output jack on the front of the case.

Do I plug it into J6 or J7?

Oh yeah, in case you're wondering if I decided to pull the card all the way out of the case to read it, I didn't.  I have another ES1370 from my main computer that I replaced it with an X-Fi ExtreMusic.

Maybe I should test it with a CD, lol.

Looks like I plugged it into the right one the first time.

It usually works.

There are usually 2 CD audio in ports, so both probably work. I'd expect the Sony one to be secondary since it sounds like it's proprietary.

I just now realized this, lol.  J6 is labeled CD Audio In, the other one is labeled Sony CD In.  So it really does seem to make more sense to plug it into J6.

What version of Windows is that machine running? If it's later than 98 you don't need the audio cable. Anything newer can play it digitally through the IDE cable.

It's XP.  At least i'm making use of the cable I have rather than route it to the unused on-board.  I should make this my secondary BF2 computer, upgrade this one with an X-Fi sound card at some point, then slap one of these in there.  This would be one kickass microATX, lol.
