Why is BF2 hiding from me?

K, this is really lame.
Out of nowhere I can't play BF2 or SF anymore. I was playing last night just fine, now this morning the program hides from me. I click the icon to start BF2, the splash screen comes up (the one with the big 2 on it, you know) & the program starts but it never comes up on my screen, it's not in the task bar & it's not under the applications tab. The only way i know it's running is because BF2.exe is running in my processes. WTF is this?
I've run Ad-Aware & Spybot so it's not adware or spyware, I've done 2 complete virus scans, I've reinstalled the patch, I've uninstalled BF2 altogether & then reinstalled, I even made sure all my drivers for everything are up to date. No luck It just won't come up on screen...
I haven't done or changed anything, no new programs have been installed, none have been deleted. All my other games (including 2142) work just fine, it's only BF2.

Can someone help, please?

Try a system restore back to when it did work.

Otherwise you've tried everything else i can think of.

Then again, nothing escapes a format (last attempt)

My BF2 does that some days, the only thing I can do to get it to run is end all unnessesary processes and keep trying to run it until it finally runs right (sometimes on the 10th try or so).
I can tell if it's running right by watching its memory usage in the processes screen. If BF2 isn't working, its memory usage plateaus at about 19,000 K, but if it is running, it reaches 30,000 K or so before the intro clips run.

You say you have uninstalled... is that a manual reinstall, or a normal reinstall?

try dragging the Battlefield 2 folder found in My Documents to the desktop.

what this does- it makes Battlefield 2 redect all your computer settings, so often making it work.

I've spent so much damned time searching for an answer & although the problem is rare it seems every person that has it has 2142 via EA Link.....I'm not a conspiracy kinda person but that sounds a little shitty. Anyone elkse think EA is totally gooning BF2 so I hafta play 2142?

It is probablynot EA's fault. This used to happen to me every time I tried to play Nethack(The greatest RPG ever) on my old computer.

Don't know your system, but if you have two monitor ports, I wonder if BF2 is showing up on the second monitor?

Restart PC... If not that try un-installing bf2/SF when done un-installing both install patch.

This happened to me tonight. Try restarting the pc before a reinstall. Its alot quicker and less headache.

Happens on my desktop 100 percent of the time... but after about 10 minutes, the game starts... try that... don't end ANY processes or open ANYTHING... just, put in the cd, chose play on the autorun menu...... and wait...

then post back after those 10-20 minutes...

Lol, that juts doesnt sound right. Its happened to me a couple of times i think, maybe a couple of minutes, but i just click it again and it starts up usually

i've had that problem before and for me it turned out that some of the registry values for BF2 didn't get deleted after my re-install so i went in and manully deleted those entries and it worked fine after that
