I think their products are fine. I like them. I was a Mac user for 12 years, then built a PC. Given the current advances that Macs have made in recent months, I'd buy a Mac Pro or MBPro, or even just a MacBook if I had the cash. But I'm poor, therefore I use Windows

Looking at some stuff on some Mac forums, it seems that the choice for Cingular was because they have the data stream stuff for the touted features of the iPhone. I'm sure Verizon can manage that too. Shit, I bet it works fine. I guess Cingular's COO slept with Jobs.

Verizon doesn't have GSM, and $500 isn't bad at all when you consider that you are getting a full video iPod/PDA/Phone/Mini-Computer that is completely touch-screen based.

I will get one when they come out with the 2nd Generation, as you must with all Apple products.

I just have problems respecting apple users because of the average user of it today

look macs aren't for everyone, neither are pc's. the iphone will sell because it looks cool, but it has some really nice features that are lacking on todays smart phones. i have not personally played with one yet, but if it does what they say can then i will be willing to shell the money out for it.
By average  user I mean people who buy a mac, call PC users for idiots just because pc has more viruses. And why do pc's have more viruses? People can't figure out on their own that surfing bad porn sites in IE6 isn't good. It's as simple as that, more viruses since more people use it. Just a matter of larger target area.

No offense meant to you, but I have just stumbled into some complete idiots when it comes to computers, and call themselves good at computers because the bought a mac.

And no, as long as it  only has one mouse button or a scroll whell, I'm not getting a mac.

Several people said it looks big (nice size comparison btw).  I agree that it looks a little bulky compared to a cell phone.  And yeah, the price is hefty compared to a lot of other cell phones on the market.  Who really cares about the quality of the photos.  My guess is it'll be equal to or higher quality than most other phone cameras.

As far as the size goes, take your tape your iPod and cell phone together and see if it's bigger or smaller than an iPhone.  If you're still saying it's too big, than tape a laptop (or palm pilot at least) to your iPod and cell phone.  This iPhone (especially for business travelers) can replace a cell phone, an mp3 player, a Palm Pilot and maybe even a laptop.  I would say it's a pretty small package to be able to do all the things they say it can.  Same with the price, it's expensive compared to other cell phones, but add in the cost of the mp3 player and Palm Pilot, etc.

I probably won't get one because I have no need for all of that.  Hell, I don't even have a cell phone.  But I still think it's a decent package.  You just can't compare it to all the other cell phones on the market.

I know, and that was meant for laptops. And yes, I know you can plug a mouse into a laptop, I just never do that because of how I use a laptop.

I'm not sure what you're referring to there... I saw a YTMND once with this guy's conversation about a charge on his bill, pretty funny. But how many times has this actually happened? Not trying to be a smart-ass here, I do want to see some more "documented cases" of poor-math-itis.

I've had shit experiences with Cingular, they're on a level much like Comcast. Called their tech support like 5 times asking about pricing and service availability, they're all poorly trained in what they do and all 5 techs were rude. Verizon has A+ tech support if you ask me, they're all friendly over the phone and their field technicians are also friendly and educated.

Finally, why doesn't Verizon use GSM? Isn't GSM better than CDMA?

I was mostly joking, but in all seriousness multiple people have called Verizon's support long after the first incindent and are still being quoted 0.002ยข/kb and then being charged $0.002/kb.

It's looks quite impractical to use as a phone IMO. I'm probably among a small minority nowadays, but I prefer something a useful size that isn't massive, yet still isn't stupidly thin so you can't hold it. It looks pretty wide as well. I'm sure it's awesome and shiny and all that, but for actually calling people it looks pretty useless. That said, most people are more interested in how many cool gadgety things they can get into it, and being an Apple product, everyone will buy one.

Considering it's got music (8 gig iPod for $250), internet (400 something for a PDA) and phone service (say 100 bucks for a phone with service not including plan)....I'd say it's worth it. I'd rather get it than a PS3

This could well be the most pointless thing Apple have produced to date. 3 million totally useless features to justify a gargantuan price-tag, same as with most Apple products these days.

Sensors to turn the screen off? Why the fuck don't they just do what every other sensible non-up their own arse company does and make the screen turn off after a few seconds of not being used? It does the same thing for a billionth of the cost.
