can it be done?

if you send an sms/text to a cell phone from a computer can that be traced back to the computers ip or something so the person can be found???

some rather harsh texts have been recieved and were just tryin to find out where they are coming from..

i believe it can, the police can do it, but i wouldn't know how!!.  Im sure if you reported the abusive txt's to your mobile network provider they can trace them also.

yeah we could phone the cell provider but dont really want them to call the cops and make a big issue out of it...  but thanks for your suggestions anyway

The company itself WOULD be able to find out where the abuse is coming from, but is in no position to relay that info back to you.  Doing so causes the phone company to be held responsible for not only giving out private information (if it's another customer of theirs), or if you decided to take justice into your own hands.

I used to work for Boost Mobile tech support and I couldn't say ANYTHING about another account.  Under abuse, they can stop it, but won't help YOU get justice.

yeah that is what we figured... privacy and all no way a service provider would give up the goods... was just wondering if there is a way to find out where the messages came from without them.. but again thanks for your help man any knowledge is appreciated

That is the only way I can think of.  Nothing legal, and I don't know of anything else.
