Im gonna point right at the PSU. If not that then something may be overheating (chance). Get a bigger PSU and that should fix it.

p.s. no karma please, I may be wrong

Ok, it could be two things. PSU or heat; I see that you are Aussie and maybe you are dealing with a lot of heat so maybe that could be it. Try to remove the side cover from your CPU´s case and turn it on to see if that can help in any heat problems. Good luck and keep us posted.

I would suggest that teh x1950 graphics card you have may require a 450+ watt PSU to be on the safe side.

I'm pretty sure it is not heat the case has got pretty good cooling, and it had only been on for like 1 minute, as soon as i try to do anything a bit graphically intense it loses signal.. i tried to install the latest drivers.. but lost signal halfway through..

temps about 49 degrees Celsius

I get little flashes on my monitor, it's like the power turns off but I can still hear games or TV or whatever is on in the background but it comes right back on. I dunno how to help you, I just deal with it but it's obviously not as bad as yours. If you figure it out though be sure to post it.
First thing I thought was PSU too but that doesn't seem to be it, maybe something as simple as wiring?

if its heating just remove the case !!! when i had my old graphic card wich was a bullshit NVIDIA 6200Geforce, i could fell the heat on my leg while playing and even on my hand on the keyboard and mouse... becuase the pc was heating!... when i bought my 7600GT i took no chance of fuckin everything up so i just installer my card and i removed the case, now my graphic card is always around 56C...

so if its heating just remove your case

what kind of PSU are you running?  those 1950's aren't anorexic.

If it came with the case, it most likely sucks nuts.  430 watts is fairly anaemic.

every spec i've read says you need at least 450w PSU,  they also recommend a 12v rail with good amperage rating.

do you have your monitor drivers installed?

are you sure you have the newest drivers installed?  whatever came on the disc is usually old junk?  go to the ATI site and check for the latest.  you could try reinstalling the drivers and using driver cleaner.

downloaded and installed latest drivers. from ati, its funny cause i had a 7100GS in there while i was waiting for the X1950PRO.. and that worked fine... so it cant be the monitors drivers..

This happened to me a while ago and i think the problem was that the power connector in the graphics card had slightly damaged pins so the gfx card wasn't getting enough power.

I guess unplug the gfx card and check the power connector isn't damaged, if it's fine make sure it is securely connected to the psu.  Failing that I would go with that other people said and try a stronger psu.

Im almost 100% sure its your PSU the Thermaltake 430W series actually run at 380W according to some source I remember considering buying the PSU because it seemed really cheap saw some good reviews but then I saw the down points... If you are in Perth I got a good deal off netsolution.com.au ATX Case 2 case fans 550W PSU for $60 I had my doubts about the PSU but its come out on top in the end it works perfectly GFX card runs at 47C with box closed system running at 35C CPU at about 49C. Highly reccomended.

All that's going to do is hurt your components. If you can't keep a case cool then you shouldn't be building a computer...

written on the box of my x1950:

450 watt power supply minimum
30 amps on the 12 volt rail recommended

I doubt that if youve got a generic 430 watt PSU, it's going to be capable of running your rig.
