The RAM speed will run as fast as the slowest module.

So what has to be the same? Timings? Bandwidth? Frequency?
Nothing has to be the same. You can mix-match all you want. The thing is, say you put in 1gb of DDR333 RAM, and 1gb DDR400 RAM. The DDR400 will clock down to the DDR333 speeds. The timings work on the same principle.

It will work but not to the full capacity of the faster RAM, since the slower RAM can't reach those speeds, the faster RAM will be forced to run at a lower clock speed than it's supposed to. Hence you don't get all of the performance.

Just a bit too slow for CrazeD, seems as if we're both the Tech forum pimpz!

Problem with the "Bells and Whistles" is that new bells and new whistles come along every other week.  Best to be slightly behind bleeding edge.  You'll save more money, for future upgrades, and you'll have a more stable system.  Bleeding edge anything is usally buggy.

I am planning to upgrade from 1gb ram to 2gb, and my friend told me that getting 1gb more ram of a higher speed will actually be detrimental to my performance and I didn't believe it.... so I am asking you!

This is my RAM right now  (Right click --> View Image)

And this is the RAM that I plan on buying.

So will it help or hurt my performance?
Hurt.  Ahhh!  You must get the same type of RAM in order for it to be compatible with your system...and for it to not blow up.
Thats not true. You won't be able to run in dual channel mode, also the higher speed ram will clock down to the speed of the ram that you have now.
Yup, think it auto underclocks it's self, same when trying to put two different cards in SLI/Crossfire, the better one slows to the lesser card (or stick in this case).
