help installing fan

i know it sounds stupid needing help installing a fan, my new 120mm fan came today as my old one packed in so i thought it would be a case of unplugging the old one and installin the new one. the thin power cable from my old fan goes into a white plastic thing (a ribbon or something or whatever its called). so i thought i just had to unplug that and plug my new one in, there are also cables from my dvd drive goin into the exact same white thing. in other words how do i put my new fan in without leaving my dvd unplugged????

yeah its got that and it also has a connecter that came with it which looks like a white plastic rectangle which has like a male/female side. my old fan is connected with the male female thing which also has my dvd drive wired into the same plastic bit aswell.

the red rings mark the fan connectors on your board ...any one will do

just had a look and could i just plug my new fan into this bit here as it says fan under neath it and looks the right size

p.s. if i can plug it in here how the hell do i take the old fun out without leaving the dvd drive un connected

simple solution would be to just cut the wires.....with the power unplugged of course!! ...at your own risk lol

if you follow the wires for the Fan then no it wont....but un plug it first.

can you show me a picture of the connector??? as it is now??

just unplug it....you should find its just a pass thru molex

yeah but thats how my current fan is connected, my new fan can be connected with the molex or with the little jack thing as it has a connector i can put on the jack

no you will have a molex going into your fan male to female with a male comin out going into your DVD ...just unplug the one from your fan and plug it into your DVD...

oh yeah remember now, in the end i just plugged the fan in using the jack into the top fan plug and just plugged the dvd drive straight into the molex. since i had my pc powered down and open i even put my heat spreaders on my ram aswell so in the end i killed 2 birds with 1 stone even though i was confused
