I've got to say that I'm very impressed with the quality of responses in this section of the forums. So I'm not saying it's no good, especially when the thread relates to news/discussion/questions about gaming related tech issues.
But ... sometimes I've been wondering about other stuff like networking, non-gaming applications, etc. and I figured there must be a wealth of information out there on the net.
I know there is a sticky thread with a similar intent, but it's more geared towards suppliers of hardware/software and gaming tweaks rather than help with troubleshooting.
Google is always my first port of call. Sometimes I get a lot of garbage sites, but sometimes the same site will pop up time and time again to save the day.
So, if any of you frequent any of these sites, could you list them and perhaps add a description about what the site is about? Also, let us know if they require setting up an account or a subscription fee.
One site I've used a few times (after a Google search) is http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/index.html. It's a site (that also sells software, but) where different users rate the 'dangerousness' of processes they've encountered in windows. ie is the process part of malicious software or is it a windows system process. I've used this while trying to minimize the number of processes my PC was running. Most people that have ever Googled a process name would have come across it. I don't think it's necessarily all that reliable, but it gives you a look at what other people think.
