ASUS today introduced a dedicated external graphics card for laptops -- the XG Station. The XG Station is an external graphics card that allows laptop users to enjoy high end graphics performance while plugged in. As the XG Station is an external graphics it can be unplugged when portability is needed.

Plug in ANY x16 graphics card and it works with your laptop!

trouble is that you also need an external monitor to use it. then you might as well get a proper desktop and a mid to low end lappy
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

That's such a good idea I duno why it hasn't been done before. I know too many people who NEED to own a laptop and want to game but, also can't afford to then go on and buy a separate gaming PC.

Can't you just plug it back into your laptops monitor?

i dont think so. also how many lappys have a monitor in port?. i dont see how a express card slot could have enough bandwidth for the card and the monitor signal. also if you look at the pic in the article, the lappy monitor is off and the card is connected to an external one.

The card plugs into the laptop, then has a connection for a monitor.  I've never seen a laptop that plugged in video sources other than the laptops own internal video card.

But a pic of the vga port would be nice, I got a laptop with a core duo, but shitty vga card, so i'd like to see what the port looks like.

You could always remove the VGA out board and replace it with a VGA or DVI in board on a very simillarly sized PCB. That would be much cheaper than buying another monitor. You wouldn't really need the VGA out if you had an external graphics adapter.

People often seem to be a bit scared about ripping circuit boards out of laptops and then soldering new ones in though. I can't imagine why....
