Just recently, I have gotten this error. Click on the icon, the screen loads up, and then it would CTD before the game began to run. So I ran it in windowed mode and saw the error screen. Can anybody decipher this and tell me whats going on?

I have updated DX9, lowered hardware accelerations, and tried various other tactis while searching arround these forums for help. Unfortunatley, I have had zero luck. Google searches have resolved similar information to what I have found here.

I have also heard word that every time you install new hardware, you would need to re-install BF2, and seeing as how I added an x1300 pro to my line up as of Dec 26, 2006, should I have done this?

It was working fine up untill last weekend, when I stopped playing. I tried to start it up last night, but to no avail. So I leave it to you guys to try to help me, I am really hoping to not have to re-install, but if that seems to be my only answer, then it shall be done.

Hoping you can help, thanks in advance.

And I screwed up the topic name, it sounds a bit redundant, lol, sorry.

I'd try re-installing the game.

It says the error is in a file that is in the D: drive, which is your DVD drive, correct?
Maybe your DVD drive got messed up or something.

Yes, my D drive is my DVD-RW drive.

I'll try to update the firmware for that.

Yeah try that, then if it still happens, reinstall BF2 and update your video card drivers if you haven't already.

If it persists, see your doctor immediately. (joking)
Maybe try to go into that folder that contains the bad file and try and fix it, maybe something is noticeable wrong. But it might be hard to find it out.

I just gave that a shot, still didn't work. So then I tried to put the disc in my E Drive (DVD-RW) and the error still read the same. So it's not my drive.

I really don't want to have to do a re-install, but I guess that may be the case.

Usually the directory won't tell you anything. You want to look at the text. Try reinstalling.

I just did a reinstall, and BF2 won't run on 1.0.

I am totally and completley lost on what I should do next.

I know you just reinstalled so this might not sound too attractive but you should try a manual uninstall, clean everything out of your registry. When you say 1.0 do you mean patch 1.0?

*Edit:* Is Aphrodite your computer name? I like that

*Edit2:* one of the first things EA Tech Support had me do is update my frivers when I was getting a CTD after the splash screen but since you've updated DX9 I'd imagine you already did that. In dxdiag turn your sound acceleration down to basic & try again. I've also heard that corrupted videos (the ones when BF2 loads) can cause all kinds of nasty errors so you might try removing those (make a backup of course though).

Did you try updating/reinstalling your video drivers?

1.0 is patch 1.0, just installed and clicked run. And it did nothing. I didn't even get an error screen.

I'll do the manual uninstall, what else have I got to lose?

Aphrodite is not my computer name, but it does sound good dosen't it? lol.

I'll check VC drivers too.

Any other suggestions?

When you uninstall are you ticking all 3 boxes at the end?
I just found this:
OK, I've fixed it now

I did the following:

Uninstalled BF2, + all 3 options @ the end.
Rebooted
Installed BF2
Rebooted
Ran BF2 -- worked!
exited, then patched straight to 1.02, skipping the 1.01 patch
rebooted
Ran BF2 -- worked! w00t!

I know what a bitch reinstalling is, it only takes 10-15 minutes but you can't go anywhere during that time because you have to wait for all 50 f**king cd's to load in so your left sitting there staring at the screen.

I'll keep looking for ya though, I just went through a 3 day thing just to get BF2 to work (including 2 complete reformats) so i know how frustrating it is.

*Edit:* Also check this out if you haven't already seen it, it has all kinds of game-specific fixes, the link is for BF2 though: http://www.gamecrashes.com/BattleField_2-fix1.htm

I also got this, I don't mean to be throwing so much shit at ya but like I said i just went through alot of shit to get BF2 to run so i know how it is.:
Reinstall/update motherboard chipset drivers => reinstall directx 9 => reinstall/update to latest version video card drivers (in that order, rebooting after each install/update).
And I guess BF2 would be after all that.

No. You've been very helpful Magik, but I haven't had the chance to access the computer with the problem. I'm going to try your suggestions today though, if I get some free time.

I was up untill 11 last night trying to figure it out.

Problem is fixed.

After updating video card drivers (I missed the notification of the update) and reinstalling DX9, 1.0 loaded up. Now to load SF, my booster packs, and finally add 1.41.

Hopefully it'll still work once all that is done.

Omg dude I know what you mean, when I finally got mine to work I started BF2 up before patching & was crossing my fingers hoping it would still run after I patched to whatever the latest patch is (4.1?)

Glad to hear it's runnin.

1.41 installed, with SF and EF/AF too. Thank God.

And thank you to all who made suggestions.
