BusinessWeek says that AMD’s stock prices have fallen 10 percent after the company issued a profit warning this morning.

Shares of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. fell more than 10 percent Friday, a day after the world's No. 2 microprocessor maker said that plunging prices for computer chips hacked into the company's fourth-quarter results.

AMD is scheduled to report its fourth quarter earnings on Jan. 23. On average, analysts have been expecting the company to earn 22 cents per share on $1.85 billion in total sales.

To make matters worse the way they are reporting this was borderline illegal.

Ati's R600 is their only hope for at least the next 6 months. Intel didn't just pull ahead with the C2Ds they curb stomped AMD. AMD's idea of a quad core is a joke, while Intel is just cruising along.

Surely they have something coming to make a dent in Intel, yeesh C2D came out like june 06 didnt it? More than 6 months to realise feck wer screwed, come on AMD! I am no AMD fan boy, but I want to see some credible alternatives from them, pressure intel, for even better chips at better prices for us consumers Since june, pretty much a no brainer to pick Intel over AMD.

I'll still pick AMD over Intel. I much prefer AMD. I can't afford the best, so I honestly couldn't care whose faster...AMD owns.

Kinda disappointing to see them slipping behind though. Everything they've put out that was supposed to whoop Intel was just embarrassed. For instance, the 4x4 crap...wtf were they thinking?

Oh well, AM3 will pwn Intel.

Can't get your point - with the C2D series you still get better value for money, assuming that the comparable models E6400 and 5200+ have a price difference of about... $55.
Especially for customers that don't want to spend such an awful lot of money on their systems, Allendales are the way to go!

See I dunno, I read AM3 will fit existing AM2 mobo's, so assuming intel is practically giving away there next gen chips (or doing the same) the AMD choice in that case may well be a valid one (assming you have an AM2 now). Although it will have to have support for both DDR2 and DDR3 in the integrated memory controller, and something about the HyperTransport 3.0 support if my memory serves me correctly.

Why? It's not just at the top end that Intel kick seven shades of shit out of the AMD chips. An OC'd E6300 will beat anything AMD have at the moment (excluding the FX-74, although it beats that on some tasks, games in particular) and it's a fraction of the price.

I'm sad to say it, but AMD fails.

AM3 might, just maybe, save them.

No matter "who you like" a competitive market is better for the consumer. One side getting stomped like AMD has been recently will not do anything to motivate lower prices of the most advanced technology. It's good when it's neck and neck.

They may do but you need a aircon unit sticking out the side of it to make sure it doesn't blow.

I think i prefer AMD, as the core on intel chips are alway way to high..
I go for the best chip for the money i have got which basically means AMD.
