How much do you want altogether? Also do you plan on replacing those 512's? You don't have to.

*Edit:* sorry, maybe I should have read "I need another GB of RAM"

Alright i think it's best but not necessary to get the same brand, lemme look through newegg. Any particular budget range?

This looks good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820146097
seems to be one of the highest customer rated. Gimme a minute to check though & make sure it's compatible. Hopefully someone will come around & tell you for sure but I'll try to look it up.

It would be best to have the exact same RAM in 2x512 DIMMS. That way you can (probably) run it in dual channel, giving a significant speed boost.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820144166 seems almost exactly the same.
2 512mb sticks but it says 3-3-3-8 instead of 3-3-3-9 like yours does. It's the closest thing I can find though. Fairly cheap too @ $114.00
I know I bookmarked a big thing about RAM timings & stuff, lemme see if I can find it. brb.

You can run in dual-channel with 4x512mb too.

you would have to buy 2 1gig sticks in order to get for output of your ram

I don't know about that stuff (obviously) but here's the link the the R6 Vegas manual. It has the system specs & all that stuff. I posted it in the other thread about the game but I wanted to make sure you got it.

http://files.filefront.com/Manualpdf/;6 … einfo.html

*Edit:* Wait though don't order that stuff. That's DDR RAM & you have DDR2 so I don't think it'll work at all & even if it does it'll suck.

*Edit2:* Yours needs to have 240 pins, I believe that's what makes it DDR2 as opposed to DDR (DDR2 is the better one if you were wondering) it should be 200MHz (I dunno if that can even be different though) & have a CAS# Latency of 3 to match up with the stuff you already have.

What?

If he has 2x512 at the moment he needs to buy 2x512 of identical, not just very similar, RAM. The timings the manufacturer, the frequency need to be the same. The RAM also needs to be the exact same model for it to run in dual channel mode. 2x512MB and 2x1GB will not work in dual channel mode.

Some MBs do not support dual channel mode over 4 DIMM slots and some only support it with modules from quite specific vendors. That is something to check in the MB manual or on the manufacturer website.

Of course you can buy any RAM you like (provided it is the right type (correct pin count)). It just won't run in dual channel, so the interface will only be 64-bit not 128-bit, this leads to a considerable loss of speed (for some applications your system will run slower, for others much faster depending on whether they need the extra memory).

He's running PC3200. That's DDR.

He wants exactly the same as he is running now. Simple.

Just open the computer up, look at the RAM and go out and buy the exact same stuff.

I think this is the same as yours except the brand (which I've never personally heard of)

Sorry, the CPU-Z ss he posted said DDR2, I guessed you can't always believe what you read though, huh?
Wanna take a sec & pick him out somethin from here: http://www.overclock.co.uk/home.php?cat=255 ?

The ss also says it's made by Nanya Technology, which I'm assuming only makes stuff for the people that build computers because I've never heard of it myself (that doesn't mean all that much though) so I think he's gonna haver trouble finding the same brand...

Are you sure about this?

From Newegg: Kingston ValueRAM 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 400 (PC2 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory

Opps. My Bad.

400MHz DDR2, what the fuck is the point of that?!?

Buy 2x1GB PC6400 DIMMs and throw the old stuff out of the window.

Or get in touch with one of these vendors http://www.nanya.com/PageContactUs.aspx … ;KeyWords= (you could be lucky and find that your Nanya RAM has actually been rebranded and distributed by someone else though - have a look at the chip), or just buy a 1GB DIMM and stick that in. Be prepared for smaller applications to actually run slower though.

OMG I am confused NOW... LOL

How would I know if my ram is DDR or DDR2?

I think I am gonna take the ram out and go to a pc shop and ask them for exactly the same one.... OR, I can call dell and tell them I want to upgrade the ram? maybe.

Bertster7... I don't think I can afford 2x1GB + I don't want to throw 1GB  lol

THANX for the help everyone!

Don't have a hearattack!
What is your system???  (dell? P4? Core Duo? AMD? AM2?)  CPU-Z should show you what your CPU is if you don't remember.
If you have either a P4 or AMD Athlon 64 based system you're using DDR, if you have a core duo or AM2 system you need DDR2.
If you have a custom built system there is a serious advantage to getting some faster DDR2 ram, but if you have  a middle of road Dell or other locked down bios system you might as well just get another pair of DDR2 512 sticks, matching or not.  From reviews I've read there's about a 2% memory speed increase with dual channel, so don't break the bank worrying about it unless you've got a high end system already.

try ramming it in an empty pci slot.
if you rammed it in with brute force, the memory fairy will come and give you an new PC
