this just came to me (oddly enough, while playing Battlefront II) and im quite proud of it so appreciate it or go back and look at longcat.

Counter-Strike (this includes Source btw) is like chess. Both sides start out the same way everytime, with the same moves, because that's what they're expected to do, and it's been proven it's the most efficient way. Soon it gets to a point where neither side really has a plan on what exactly to do, so they have little bouts and skirmishes, to get something going. The poor unlucky pawns get wiped out quickly, and are left to do nothing until the next match. Some pawns get lucky and survive the first big clash. Naturally, only a bishop and maybe a knight or a rook, the more experienced and skilled players, were taken down, most probably quite by accident. By now each side has their position and calculates the situation into the plan. Sometimes the plan will be to go straight for the gold; and go straight for the King. Sometimes the layout is better suited for a side to roam around the battleground and kill off what it can find, first. Sometimes it seems more appropriate to stand your ground and go onto the defensive and protect the King. Either way, a few more pieces will go down in short battles and surprise attacks, until one side clearly has the upper hand. Soon, that advantageous side is ready to finish the game. That side waits for the moment to strike, searching for a way to get in and kill. Sometimes, they rush, and an unplanned execution gets them, well, executed. Either way, everyone is watching this last confrontation, as both sides use whats left to strengthen their forces to the best of their abilities. If the losing side are able to hold off and miraculously defeat the attacking force, they are already too far from their objective with too little time left, and it can end in a stalemate draw. If the advantageous wins that confrontation, they win the game, and it's time for another round.

I like that analogy.

Did I mention chess also sucks and is boring?

And yes, I am quite bad at chess too, but sometimes I'm that lucky pawn who manages to survive to the end.
