Sound card causing BF2 lag??

Ever since I build my new rig I've had the burden of lag and high CPU Usage, and from what?

My fucking sound card... What?

I took out my sound card to test if my onboard sound was better due to a friend recommendation. So I did. I then realized that each time I reformatted and reinstalled my chipset drivers... my comp would crash. What the fuck?

I enabled onboard sound from bios, just in case anyone is wondering.

I then disabled onboard sound and reformatted again. I installed my drivers and everything ran smooth as ever. Then I tried Singleplayer BF2 and I was running 55 - 70 fps. Previously I was only getting 20 - 30 fps. I have no idea why.

So today I went to Circuit City and bought a new sound card. $17.43 after a friends employee discount. hehe

I installed it when I got home and tried BF2 singleplayer... and guess what? LAG! It was back to normal. And when I brought up my task manager... my CPU usage doesn't go below 22%. I posted a topic some time ago with that exact question as to why my CPU usage never fell below 36%, now I know why.

Is it because my sound card is installed on the bottom-most PCI slot on my motherboard? Just a though.

Help is appreciated.

Varying performance for PCI slot position would be subtle at best.
What sound card are talking about?

Also, If you are using a card, disable the onboard on your bios. Technically both can usually run side by side, but why bother.

I don't think the Audigy SE supports hardware rendering, which is what takes the load of sound processing off of the CPU, I recommend you get a sound card that does support hardware rendering.

I don't think the Audigy SE supports hardware rendering, which is what takes the load of sound processing off of the CPU, I recommend you get a sound card that does support hardware rendering.

I think what I'm gonna do is just buy a new motherboard. First off I hate mine as it is. Epox is something I will never purchase anything from, ever. Asus will be my next mobo, then just reformat with their drivers with onboard sound. Now I have to go back to Circuit City and return this shit.

I hate technology.

I have the card and can use hardware rendering no problem. Had lag issues at first but creative eventually released a decent driver for it

I've personally never heard of a sound card causing lag but I don't know all that much.

Yeah it happened to me when i moved from on-board to a 5.1 card and the driver on the cd couldn't handle eax. A sound card not running inefficiently can be a severe system hog.

Indeed, I thought the same, but apparantly I am assured by someone in the know, it can really make a impact on performance.

Yeah, you're telling me. It sounds like every time they talk during the game -- they have a huge speech impediment. Not only that, but I dropped around 30fps. I could play lagless, but that means no sound. No sound = no fun.

You should save up for an X-Fi, assuming you don't get an nForce motherboard. The X-Fi sometimes has issues with nVidia drivers for mobos and g-cards. Especially with the nForce. The performance would go from being -30 fps to something positive and it's the best sound card for gaming.

If there is problems I think it's fixed (although like I've already said i don't really know much ) because I have an nForce 590 motherboard, 8800 & X-Fi Xtremegamer. It actually gave me a nice boost in the fps department too.

The reviews are saying nForce 4 boards. The ones in the reviews are: 2 reviews from people who use the ASUS A8N5X had problems, one with an ABIT KN8 nForce4 SLI also had a problem, as well as another person from the A8N series.

One of the older reviews says because it is not necessarily a conflict with the board itself, but the integrated audio drivers of the board. The problem they are referring to is the snapping, crackling and popping noise.

The only thing I see wrong with the card is that shitty Flexijack, what a fucking stupid idea. Also, the inability to succesfully/easily run a mic on the flexijack while running analog speakers which operate on a completely different port on the card.
