New System I want to build:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 - £ 146.94

Asus Striker Extreme Quad Core motherboard SKT 775 nForce 680i  £233.34  Inc VAT

OCZ® Platinum Series 2GB DDR2 PC6400 800Mhz  £173.43  Inc VAT

Asus Extreme 8800GTX  £392.92  Inc VAT

I dont need a monitor, keyboard or mouse. Would need new case and PSU but dont need to worry about that ATM.

That price comes to around £900, bit expensive if you consider that if I ordered the parts from America, it'd be nearly half the price for what I plan on getting but I do not have anyone that could order the parts for me in the USA then ship them here.

So, I'm looking to recoup some money by selling my current system which is:

AMD64 3500
GeForce 6800GS
2gb Corsair Ram
Nforce 4 SLi Mobo
Thermaltake Suprano Case
Thermaltake 550w PSU

How much do you think I'd get selling that and would it be better selling the parts individually rather than the whole system together?

Individually - since you can probably keep case and PSU (550W is sufficient for one GTX, assuming you got 2 GPU-Power connectors on your PSU...).

Though I don't know anyone who would spend money on what you're selling, except for a very low price.
Also, I advise you not to buy that new system instantly - rather wait one month 'til Intel releases new CPUs, 'til Vista is out and there are more DX10 GPUs
(Also, I quite think a 8800GTX is a waste on an E6400, but well... If you're going to overclock it...)

You'd be wrong.
You can comfortably hit stock X6800 speeds on an E6400 on a 680i MB. That's not gonna bottleneck your GPU. It might halve the life of your CPU, but who uses CPUs for their who lifespan anyway.

Does the 8800 GTX need two PCIe power connectors? My GTS doesn't.

I'd say that system looks like a good bet. The Striker Extreme is quite a pricey MB, even as 680i boards go and it's not got the best performance figures of all of them. It does have loads of very nice features on which tempted me, but the £50 saving going for an EVGA one was even more tempting.

Okey.

And yes, the 8800GTX has two power connectors.

That is what I was thinking of doing since it'd save some money. The problem with my case is that its only a midi tower, I want a full tower because even now, it's horribly with wires and what not so I want more space.

Also, it probably wont be until march or april till I get round to buying stuff, so I'll see then.

6600 has doubled cache though

you could get close to $200 for your ram easy.  put it on ebay.  theres the money for your processor right there.  now you just need mobo, ram, and gpu.  i've got a friend who builds computers so i was able to unload my old stuff for a good price.  if you want a complete upgrade it takes time if your not paying with a credit card (took me 4 months).  don't let $ burn a hole in your pocket.

True. I'm guessing it OCs nicely too. What does your 6600@3.6 get in benchies?

I would disagree. CPU overclocking is less damaging to your system than GPU OCing. The FSB tolerances on the "Allendales" (which aren't actually Allendales, they are true Conroes according to Intel and the newer versions of CPU-Z) are much higher than on the Conroes and the Kentsfield FSB tolerances are even lower. High FSBs, which will be very achievable on that MB (maybe up as high as 500MHz!) with an E6400. You want to buy a big ass fan though.

You can (I have) get a score of 10K+ in 3DMark06 with an E6300 and a 8800GTS. An E6400 and a GTX would do even better (possibly not CPU side because the E6300 and E6400 are basically the same chip, but it'll probably wear out slower).

The cache only boosts about 5% performance at most.

That sounds like less of a boost than you'd get from the extra FSB tolerance on the 6300-6400.

What multiplier is the 6600 set to?

9. So it kinda depends you know?

Hmm.   That makes sense.

It's 6/7 on my 6300.

Still, 488x7 gets a decent clock speed and increasing the FSB gives you all that extra work per cycle.

I'd be really interested to see some benchmarks for OC'd 6600s. I'm sure it beats the 2 lower end C2Ds, but I'm not sure how big the margin will be.

thats what i was hoping/thinking.

and why from america? because on newegg, the processor is £40 less from the USA than it is buying from UK and the GPU is £90 less.

they dont have the mobo and the ram is £50 less.

My dad frequently visits the USA so maybe I can get him to buy me the parts from there.
