Hey guys...

Just wondering how those expert aviator and heli pilots control their machines so well? First, what combinations of keys do u use for heli? Only keyboard or keyboard + mouse? If using mouse, should the sensitivity be high or low?
For planes, i used only keyboards, mouse don't seem to be having good control of the aircraft.

I see many pro aviator shoot down enemy planes with just the machine guns, but how in the world do they aim? There's so much movement in flying and chasing the enemy plane and the bullets can hit. I have tried once against a pro, I am trying my hardest to do evasion manuveurs, but still, the bullets still hit me.

For the helis, its harder to hover at 1 point at a fix altitude to cap points, always got my tail hit into something. Need some tips in flying the BH and the AH.

Any guides out there to teach the pro-aviator-wannabe how to fly? Can pros share your skills with us here?

they fly with in bomb mode - as to not cause an alert of lock on the plane they are chasing and shoot... good aviators realise whats happening and take evasive action but if ur almost dead it can kill you before you realise... or if your just plane noobise...

keep your bombs out when flying so you dont get partial lock when flying past an emeny that way if they dont see you they dont know your there if u got partial lock thatd alert the that theres something trying to shoot them somewhere...

stingers are easy to another reason why its good to fly in bomb mode but dont bomb them learn where they are on maps and go head on with them and use your guns, practice makes perfect but when your good ull be able to blow up the stinger before they can even lock you.. if you dont then dont panic once you hear a clear tone drop flares and just pull up and ull be safe..

the amont of people ive shot down in a plane that havent let off flares aint funny? do they know they exist? when someone has lock dont fly straight? dont get why they do that either..

as for choppers pretty much the same deal, altho most people just drop flares and continue to hover in the one spot thats a bit dumb once the flares fall to the ground ur a sittin duck and u cant drop more till they reload..

K..I get the part with the bomb mode when chasing and shooting the enemy plane....but normally at what speed should you fly at when chasing a plane? When exactly to use the afterburners and do you aim the machine guns ahead of the enemy planes or directly at it? Its like so hard to get the bullets hit a plane...do u use (asdw + mouse) to fly a plane or fully (asdw + arrow) keys?

i use the mouse and bind mouse button 3 for pull up aswell for the hard turns....

depends on the angle of the plane if ur behind him and he is straight then straight but otherwise on a turn aim in front obviously [how do you shoot running people] its the same deal just in a plane....

i fly flat out for chase but if they slow down you do too you dont wanna end up with him on your ass.... afterburners for when your really in the deep end to get the hell outta there...
and well if he goes after burners then you would too to keep up to kill him?

if your outta ammo and far from base you wanna get back and get ammo quick? so as fast as possible...

i woulda thought they were pretty obvious tatics?

sort of - I have a nub on my KB - that's the best BH piloting tool I've ever seen, I've used them all - however the Cobra I pilot with the mouse because of the ability to fire off so many rounds so quickly by clicking the mouse button, plus it seems to lend itself to a bit more precise controll with a mouse (it's so touchy).

I run sensitivity for pitch about 2 points higher than that of yaw on the helo's - don't fly jets much though - I would bet that joysticks are the answer for that though.

Hmm....maybe i should get 1 joystick and try and see if it helps in flying.
coz its like so hard to stablise the aiming with mouse and keyboard when u r flying.

I got a Saitek CyborgEVO Flight stick just the other day in hopes it would improve my flying. So far in Jets is seems to be easier to maneuver with the joystick. Helicopters however are very touchy. I'm getting used to it slowly with the Joystick but basically I am learning it all over again cuz I was never good in the first place with Helicopters. But in truth as much as I have read about flyboys. The Joystick is the way to go for the more advanced and skilled flyers in BF2. Also the Saitek CyborgEVO (USB 2.0 connection) is only $35.00. Not too expensive and has a great number of programable buttons.

I tried Helo piloting w/ joysticks - too hard - get a nub - they're perfect for the job (at least on the slightly more sluggish transport choppers)

Just a quick question. By "nub" are you talking about that little orange doo-dad that is in the middle of the keyboard on laptops from IBM? The one that replaces the mouse track ball or touch sensative square? Or is this some other nub thing?

One important thing to note: When practicting... do it in single player mode, or on an empty public server. If you do it in a big multiplayer game you're going to piss people off.

I tried a Joystick and found that my mouse, well calibrated on the game, does very well. I found that on settings I needed to put all settings to 10 and put a check mark on invert mouse. I also noticed that if a server has a high ping level it will cause your chopper or jet to fly very bad. I like the mouse!!!!!!!!!

I love choppers, and so does everyone that has killed me to get in one (4).
I use the keyboard+mouse cuz I haven't bought a new joystick that is compatible with my comp. I will probably get one in the future, but kb and mouse work well. Also practice raping the comps in tanks in sp, then move on to faster moving vehicles. Repeat takeoff/landing maneuvers on various objects. Also, when flying into the direction of the target, aim a bit above the crosshairs.

I can't even fly a jet online cuz I can never find a smooth enough server, and if it is smooth gameplay, it still lags with the jet...

Yea - the very same - but I'm using it on an Inspiron 9100 - 3.2ghz desktop replacement laptop. That I purchased for editing video (it just happens to play games well too)

say your afterburners and if the enemy ever locks on to u go straight up at hit the afterburners. use a joystick. and when u lock on to an enemy dont fire wait for him to deploy his flares then fire because of the long reload flares fr aircraft

Get a joystick with a variable throttle and buttons in a convenient place that could be used for rudder controls, or a twist stick, or if you want to spend a whole lot get pedals.

These days all joysticks made plug into the USB. You will have to configure the controls to your liking, but its the same interface as changing the keyboard controls, as long as you don't get a Saitek X-45, in which case you will need to find a custom control .con file somewhere on the internet that lets you use it.

The Saitek is a good joystick, worth the money and effort it takes to get it configured for the BF engine (it had the same problems in BF1942 and BF:V), especially if you plan on playing flight simulators with your newfound pilot skill, however prepare to be disappointed in your battlefield 2 pilot skill when you play a combat flight simulator.

well all i can say, is that i use arrow keys, most people say u need a joystick, but trust me arrow keys do just fine, i have some other tricks up my sleeve when flying but i wouldnt release that to the public so they dont see i coming , here is a hint..."stall!!". more hints will be given in the furture.
