How good is this "Intel Centrino Core Duo 1.6 GHz " in a laptop?  Also how well will it run BF2 with ATIx1600 256 MB video?

I know it wont run it maxed out but what about for average settings?

thanks

Never having used that chip or card, I'd say you'll probably be able to run almost everything on medium. How much ram in the laptop? If it's less than a gig, figure mostly everything on low.

Because clock frequency is far from being the most important factor in determining CPU speed. Forget how many GHz CPUs are, it's misleading. Clock frequencies are only really a usefull comparison if comparing identical (or extremely similar) architectures.

A 1.8GHz C2D is much faster than a 4GHz P4 for example.

lol, a 1.8GHz C2D is much faster than a 8GHz P4

By the way, minimum requirements are 1.6GHz CPU.

On the back of the box it says 1.7GHz.

But ultimately that is based on P4 speeds and so is totally irrellevant.

Possibly high, I have a laptop running a P1.8m Processor, 1gig ddr2 and an ati x700 card and that runs in high settings with AA turned off

Are there any 1.7GHz CPUs?

And yes, P4 speeds have been standard. I really wonder what will come in the future - there'll obviously have to be the minimum AMD and Intels as well as a link to a benchmark on the back of a box to determine, whether a system will do the job or not...

Loads of 1.7GHz CPUs. Celerons, P4s, Palomino core Athlon XP 2100+ etc.

x1600 can run all 2142 and bf2 on high and if u kill the lighting and shadows u can run 4x AA with only minimal FPS drop. as long as u have at the very minimum 1GB or ram.

MY LAP TOP HAS
AMD Turion x2 2GHZ or maby its 1.8 I cant remember
1GB of ram
100GB  72 000 Rpm
and an x1600 256 MB card in there it runs all high exept i turned lighting to low b/c i can c ppl in dark places and am running 2x AA and 2x AF

i have almost the exact same system. 1.8 cpu and 2gb ram though. i never messed with the settings but i think its all on low/medium. ill go right now and see if it can handle high. (ps. im running 2142 but im sure its not that differnt)
oh, bf doesnt support widescreen so things will be "stretched." ya get used to it though.

edit: tried it on high. it does run, but the frame rate hit is unbearable. not to bad at medium with some things high though...

with my lappy i can run high except for lighting and shadows. even though your proc is a bit slower i figure it will still be good enough for high mediums
