I bought an aurora in spring 2005. It shipped with defective ram, all the case lights burnt out in 2 weeks, my video cards are so dangerously hot that I had to add my own fans to the "cool" system. It's pretty much unchecked, so build your own.
What a rip off. You could get an 8 Core Xeon system with about 16GB of RAM and 8800GTXs in SLI for that. I bet their specs are far lower than that.Bell wrote:

Make that near $20,000 :S. Note on the bottom
$19411.64 as low as $582.35/mo. $22312.23 as low as $847.86/mo. ~€15172.32 N/a
LMAO! Aye thanks very much, there practically giving these things away 8-) I wonder if anyone has bought one :S For some reason though, that version doesnt support the new DX10 card, need to settle for 2x x1950xtx in crossfire. Similar spec non gold is a far more sensible, $8000
Hell I still want it!

It comes with a FREE Voodoo Tshirt!! w00t w00t!!
I know this is a few days old but I've been having some problems with my Alienware & have been talking to tech support the past 2 days on & off. I had to modify my case the very first night because the tempatures were so hot, besides that I've added more RAM, water cooling & a new processor, any one of which voids the warranty. I never thought adding the exact same RAM would void a warranty, especially since Alienware advertises the "expandability" of their systems. I've been reading through said warranty to see exactly what I can & can't do & basically your allowed to open the case but not touch anything.
So my point is if your still looking for a computer, the reason to buy pre-built is for the warranty, tech support & ease, right? If you ever plan on upgrading anything or doing anything at all to your computer then don't buy Alienware. I'm not sure if other companys re like that or not, I know Sony is but anyway I just wanted to point that out.

Custom would give you better deals that the best deals them self.soldevilla13 wrote:
I was looking at different types of computers to purchase, and it seems as though alienwares are pretty good, are there any other suggestions/opinions?
Overdrive pc is a better brand that Alienware, but doesn't look as cool as them.
Hmmm that is a really good point actually, especially, as you say they advertise for how expandible it is. I imagen dell are the same (as we know dell owns alienware) and there 710, one of the major selling points is you can add and replace with ease, no tool kit. Waranty? VOID MOFO ahahahahahaMagikTrik wrote:

Ya dude fuck Alienware, I just found either pubes or facial hair stuck in the thermal grease for my VGA while I was trying to figure out how to get my cooling block to fit better. That's just not right. I mean a good chunk of them too, like someone did it on purpose.

If set on OEM, just catch a plain Dell on sale and customize it yourself (more ram, video....<10 minute install), and be done with it. You'll save money and you can use that savings to increase the rate at which you upgrade. I build my own PCs, but honestly, I could save money myself by doing this. I don't think I'd notice the 5% performance decrease nearly as much as I'd notice saving a few hundred bucks. I've already planned to start doing this with my other machines (wife's pc, laptop, servers), leaving just my gaming desktop and my tinker box as custom jobbies.
I've got to consider taking care of a house full of equipment though, so I have to control my budget so I have money for other hobbies as well.
