Kinda disappointing, isn't it?  Were you expecting some ginormous gas plasma monstrosity?  I work at a healthcare facility and took this pic with my cellphone.   The two monitors in the middle are diagnostic-quality, 3 megapixel, black-and-white only, and carry a price tag of about $8,000 US each.  They are used to read cat scans, MRIs and chest xrays.  They have to be approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), so I guess that's why they are so friggin expensive.

They're not even the most expensive we have, either.  I noticed that the screen on one of our monitors was shaking.  So, the vendor brought in a brand new $10, 000 CRT.  Come to find out it wasn't the monitor that was faulty.  It was an electrical closet behind the wall that was causing the interference.  What do you say at that point?  Uhmmm, oops.  I fucked up, sorry.

Charging $8,000 for what sounds like a monitor from the '80s is a crime.

This is just part of the reason why healthcare is so expensive.  My dad is retired so he spends more on health insurance  every month than on rent.

I support the backend of these applications, PACS, Heartlab ETC. The hospital went to digital pictures instead of film.

Yea, I work in PACS too.  It's pretty cool.  Nice mix of radiology and IT.  If anyone here is searching for a career
I suggest you look into it.  Just be prepared to get called in at ungodly hours of the day.  Frequently.

you know what would be interesting?  A picture of an overpriced monitor smashed on the floor of a hospital.  For the sake of BF2s, let's(you) make it happen.  I smell karma in your future.

New England Medical Center in Boston has the same setup. They showed me my x-rays on them. It was neat-o.

You're the devil.

@ badhq

Those 2x64" monitors you mentioned are for network monitoring software and disaster alert info, right?  In the Network Operation Center of the building in which I work they have 6 of those for these purposes.  CNN is on 24/7.
