Well now...

My motherboard only supports DDR2-533/400 - so what if I inserted some (2x 1GB) DDR2-800 RAM - would it be detected and could I possibly run it at 533MHz too?
And would different timings cause an interference with my current 1024MB RAM?
I've used the search function, but there's been not given a specific answer on this problem, I think.

PS: The reason why I'd like to put such RAM onto my mobo is that I possibly could get a new system by summer, but would enjoy having more memory now

Everything will be defaulted to the slowest stick.

So say you have one DDR2 533 stick, and one DDR2 800 stick. The DDR 533 runs at 5-5-5-12, but the DDR2 800 runs at 4-4-4-12. With it on 'Auto', the DDR2 800 stick will be defaulted to DDR 533 speeds @ 5-5-5-12.

Well my 533 runs at 4-4-4-12, so the DDR2 800 will be defaulted to 533 at 4-4-4-12 even though my mobo can't even handle the 800 (meaning that it will still accept the 800, just at 533, right?)

Aye.

Yea it just slows it down to your slowest stick. but why not get 2 gigs of ddr 800 so you can use them in your new pc later

Keep in mind, even though your mobo supports up to 533MHz you can still probably "overclock" the 800MHz higher than that.

It's a real Intel mobo and my DDR2-533 is a DIMM, no heatspreader or w/e. And I already thought about buying some heatspreader but actually I've heard that many people rather ruin their ram instead of increasing it's performance.
And I've got no experience in overclocking at all - well, although this would be 'underclocking by a factor reduced to it's minimum'

Yeah, you really wouldn't be overclocking the RAM since it's running below stock already. And I wouldn't bother with heatsinks, as long as you have good case cooling and aren't raising the voltage over stock they would be fine running naked.

Value RAM would be fine nekkid...but take the heat spreader off real RAM and it's going to over heat.

On some motherboards the RAM slots are so close together that with heatsinks on there's not enough room between the sticks for air to cool them, and in that situation a lot of people recommend taking them off.

Yeah well, it's a problem for me to cool them since I only run one 80mm fan blowing air into the case, but got a PSU and a 120mm fan heavily bored since there isn't enough warm air to remove... My case simply doesn't allow me to install more than these two additional fans and the 120mm soaking in would just be nonsense. I'd have to turn my CPU cooler (AC7Pro) and since the back of th pc is not far from a wall the 120mm fan would of course get some of the air the PSU blew out - warm air again, of course...

So I don't think it's a good idea to overclock my Value RAM
