See post 19 for my up-to-date plans

I made a thread about me buying a computer.

Ive found someone near me to make it, i would like to buy my parts from overclockers.co.uk as ive used them and trust them, but if anyone knows of anywhere else then please tell.

I have a limit of about £2, 000

And all ill be doing is gaming, plus downloading and the usual msn etc. want the best of the best for gaming

(dont think i need quad core)

But want 8800GTX

Also maybe a 500 gig harddrive for music and movies (external if will be faster)

https://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l70/White-Fusion/Comp.jpg

I made that and like the things on that, if it can be improved please tell me, and if you know of better parts etc, add me on xfire white-fusion1

or msn - ratm-rock@hotmail.com

Or make a pic like the one i made

*edit*

I have a nice monitor 19" LCD acer, but if buying a nice 20" one say, with low responce time would be worth it, then ill do that

Also want gaming keyboard and mouse

*edit again*

theres the link to the comp, if you cant see the one above well

external hard drive faster? somehow i doubt that. if i was buying for a case like that i would pick up at least 2 internal SATA hard drives. when u are choosing them, be wary of the number of platters. more=worse drive. also buy ones (like seagate) that come with a 4 year warranty. this way they can be backing each other up and are freely replaced if one fails.

i really cant comment on the individual parts u selected, though. if BFG is a good brand, then they should probably work well.

8800 GTX 768mb - Dual if your snazzy Pointless tbh
At least 4GB of RAM (nice limit of £2000)
22" Monitor
Duo Core Processor

That's basically all i would really want so the rest is up to you.
Only posted because i feel guilty that nobody posted so you have to "Bump" it

Tiny bit over budget, but this is what I'd get.

You want a display to appreciate your powerful system on.

Alternatively go for a 22" display and an extra 2GB of RAM. If you're looking for speakers the Logitech Z-5400 ones are very nice.

That system is ludicrous for a 19" monitor.

Unless of course it's a very nice 19" monitor that does 1600x1200 - but I doubt that's the case.

Well the Allendale CPUs (the real ones, not the Conroes in disguise) have just been released. Q3 is probably when we'll see significant improvements to Intel CPUs. That's when they're anticipated to release 45nm CPUs. AMD will be about 6-9 months behind.

Smaller fabrication process (45 nanometres as opposed to 65 nanometres) allows CPU manufacturers to fit more on a CPU and hence make it go faster. AMD don't have the money to keep up with Intel, so they take longer to release CPUs made using a smaller fabrication process.

The newly released E4300 Allendale CPU is a true Allendale core, as opposed to the E6300 and E6400, which are often mistaken for Allendales since they have the same amount of cache. Actually they are Conroes (like the E6600, E6700 and X6800) with half the cache disabled.

Simple, eh?

Total is around £2300 from Overclockers, although if you buy them somewhere else you'll probably get the whle lot for a snad over £2000.

A fantastic system, damn I'd love it!

Overpriced.

The Fatal1ty X-Fi is the biggest waste of money. A 620W is totally insufficient for that system as well. The RAM has a poor cost/performance ratio and he needs a better monitor included in the system. What the hell is the point in having 8800GTXs in SLI if he hasn't got a screen to see the benefits on.

Agreed about the PSU come to think about it. A 750W would be required at least.

You should be able to get a 400GB for that price, instead of the 320GB. I personally prefer the Coolermaster case you chose previously, but hey it's your computer!

Overall a nice system but a bit over your budget? I'll compose another system with a more detailed analysis and hopefully better than the last one ^^!

edit// ok, here is the system:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
I chose this because the E6700 can be an overkill for the price in comparison to the E6600, and the E6400 has 2MB Cache (instead of the E6600s 4MB and has a much faster processor speed)

Motherboard: EVGA nForce 680
I chose this because it is a fantastic board, even for its high price.

RAM: Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400C4 4-4-4-12 Dominator
I was going to opt for the standard XMS2 but the Dominator, at only £15 more, seemed much more worth it!

Video: BFG GeForce 8800GTX 768MB
[i]I was going to go for a DX9 card and wait for the R600, but I'd assume you'd want a DX10 as soon as possible!

Hard Drives: 2 x Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10K 16MB Cache + Samsung 400GB Drive
The Raptors (you should RAID0) will be very fast (especially when RAIDed) and will hopefully never let you down! 300GB might not be enough, so I put in a 400GB drive in there for media etc just in case.

Optical Drive: Samsung 18x18 Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive
[i]Reviews look promising, Blu-Ray a bit too expensive for your budget!

Water-Cooling: Zalman Reserator1 V2 Fanless
Not an overkill in my opinion. Very easy to set up and will certainly keep your CPU "cool 'n' quiet".

Sound Card: Creative SoundBlaster Elite Pro
Should prove excellent. Pricey, but you can push it in!

Case: Antec P180B Advanced Super-Midi
I own the Silver version and it is amazing. I must say, a fantastic case. Not sure if you are into windows, leds and cathodes etc but a fantastic case with excellent cooling!

Power Supply: Tagan 900W PSU
Will certainly handle your system very well!

Keyboard: Logitech G15
Need I explain?

Mouse: Logitech G5
G7 is wireless so not to keen on that. G5 is small, sufficient and at 2000dpi it certainly performs well!

Monitor: DELL 22" TFT Widescreen 1680x1050
Same monitor as you chose, looks excellent for its price.

__________

Same cost as around your system above.
