I hate to admit it, but yes, Ford is doomed. Look at the way they do things.
1. The voting shares are held in majority by the Ford Family. No matter how many shares you have, you can not beat the Ford family to make necessary changes to the company.
2. Look at the design of their cars. The 500 is boring. The freestyle is U-G-L-Y. Ranger? I think its a cruel joke!
3. Warranties. Why would i pay 22000-26000 (U.S.) for a Fusion with a 3 year warranty. Buy an Acura and get a 4 year 48k warranty that you probably wont even need.
4. Detroit Lions. I know I know, what does one of the worst football teams in the U.S. have to do with Ford? Well it is owned by William Clay Ford Sr. and they hired Matt Millen to be the CEO and President of the Lions with a 24-72 record since 2001. If they wont make changes to the football team why do you think they will change else where. .
I have always bought Ford (affiliated) Cars and trucks until recently. I finally got sick of getting nickeled and dimed by service for warranty issues and went and bought a car I hope will never need to use the warranty.
and this

Can't argue with the point about the Lions. They suck.
All US companies need to take some cues on design from other companies. Cadillac and Pontiac are doing pretty good but that's about it. Chevrolet is starting to improve in their cars, but I don't like the new truck design. GMC looks better.
I don't agree - at all.
You are not comparing apples to apples here - your comparing American PRIVATE apples to Japan INC. oranges.
There was a time historically when there was nothing but American Car Co.s competing with American Co.s. The FACT that the BIG-3 of the past - failed to truly be in competition with each other was a Problem (of the past). Now some 50 years latter - after in the 70's when Japan Inc. was allowed to DUMP product & force American Co.s to change/compete - really is MORE EVIDENCE of the LACK of INTELLIGENCE of our Elected Officials. There is NO STRATEGY to maintain ANY American Industry and subsequently American Middle-Class Prosperity.
Japan - supports every industry in Japan: steel, milling, technology, cars, etc.
Toyota has the support of the Government. When a company Like Toyota decides/decided to go after the pricey high-end markets; BMW, Mercedes, etc; and create the Lexus Line/Division (Nissan - Infiniti; & Honda - Acura); they had/have the monetary support of the Government (and if needed have).
Since the 1980's and 1990's many Japan-Corporations operate without the same Government assistance - they originally did - but that is only BECAUSE as an ESSENTIAL & STRATEGIC GOAL they SUCCEEDED in creating the environment they sought; profitable self-sufficient corporations. But make no mistake they (the Government) would step in INTELLIGENTLY if such action were needed.
From 100% market share (in the past) - to just over; or around 50% market share today (for American Car Co.s). What does a continually shrinking market share and an inactive US Government - mean,
The DOOM scenario seems an eventuality.
