i did a routine simple restart, and with my luck, it totally fried my HDD partition. luckily, i had recently backed up most of my school crap, but i literally just lost the last month of my life. .

does anybody know of a good HDD recovery program that actually works, and is free?

thanks.

I lost 4 months once & I'm a photographer so not only was it personal stuff it was a decent chunk of money too so i know how it is, I won't tell anyone if you cry

I've used Norton's recovery program with alot of success & I have a trial version of RescuePRO that came with my CF cards to recover from portable media & that worked great too the company makes normal recovery stuff too: http://www.lc-tech.com/software/software.html

I don't understand how restarting your computer will nuke your HDD partition, but mmmkay.

Indeed I do, and I know they don't delete hard disk partitions by restarting.

my nForce 4 mobo has corrupted the filesystem 3 times and it's not fun (lost about 100gb files on each one)

My old power supply nuked my registry like 20 times, give or take a few. I'm not saying file corruption can't happen, but it seems odd that it would happen just from restarting. *shrugs*

Well Ender, all you have to do is follow these four crucial steps....

Now if you followed those 4 steps, you should get your files back!

Sounds like the disk is bad. In my experience, it usually seems to run fine until a reboot. Then things get all wacky.

get data back is a good one.

You can find a key pretty easy, get ahold of me if you need one!
