I want a monitor to get with my computer

(Which i will be getting in around 3 months, and is subject to change)

Intel E6000 thing
4 gig super deadly ram
Nvidia 8800GTX 756 Meg

The best of the best

I want a real good monitor (no price limit)

however i have heard anything 20"+ will be in widescreen, and ill have to play bf2 really wide (fat) or with a big black border

So can i not get a real nice 19"?

or what? is there 20"+ ones not widescreen?

I play BF2 on a widescreen monitor. It's fine. You just have to force it to a widescreen resolution. For me 1680x1050. I much prefer widescreen monitors to normal ones, although it can be a pain in the arse trying to configure some games to run in widescreen (quake 4 was a bitch to set up, despite claiming to have a widescreen mode).

How about this:

You said no price limit

These are in a more sensible price range:

Doesn't XP only recognize 3GB's of RAM?

Vista recognizes 4 though right?

I have this monitor.  I have never regretted in getting it.  I can kill so many more people with it than I could with 8ms monitor.  Pair this with a good mouse and my god you will be owning.

you won't notice a performance gains with a 19in. the 30in apple displays will really show you the power of the 8800.

Who said that... I run 1280x1024 resolution on that monitor.  No problems at all then again i'm running a 7950GT and soon to be down grading to a 7600GT.

Damn straight.

1280 x 1024 is no where near enough to justify an 8800GTX. Ideally you want 1920x1080, but you'll probably need a 24" for that (a 24" would be great).

19" CRTs often do 1600x1200, but I doubt you want one of those, even though they are much better.

1680x1050 will do you ok. 1280 x 1024 is just totally insufficient.

The 57" one I posted earlier would be best though.

You must be blind...  if you need a bigger resolution or very very very picky.  I always laugh when people get those monitors that can have that big of a resolution and only have the game set at 1024x768.

I said that!

You are running midrange GFX on a midrange monitor. That's all fine and dandy. If he has an 8800GTX the power will be wasted on crappy low end resolutions like 1280x1024. He'd be able to run everything on it with no problems, but whats the point - he wouldn't be using half the power of his enormously powerful GPU.

Didnt that 57'' have a 16ms responce time, not exactly a gaming monitor (eventhough it be totally AWSOME!).  Like I said to you earlier johny, 22'' dell would be your best bet

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

1280x1024 is a medium resolution. His GPU will be best suited to running games in resolutions greater than 1600x1200.

I run all my games at 1680x1050 on max settings and I only have an 8800GTS.

If he were to buy a lame 19" 1280x1024 monitor, then what is the point in spending loads of money of a GPU designed to run at significantly higher resolutions?

To be honest it doesn't matter which monitor you use cause the full power of the 8800GTX is still not unleashed.  And are you really going to be able to tell the difference between 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 99% can't and don't care if it looks good.  I would spend the money on a mid range monitor thats designed more for gaming than movies/multimedia.

I'd go with the 24" Dell if you can. The extra resolution will be nice. Also movies in 1080p resolution on a 24" display will look beautiful.

Mabey the question is more or less if he is going to be gaming more or do other stuff.  Cause if you gets a big monitor its a waste of money if he is going to be gaming.  Its funny how they don't make larger monitors with faster response times.

Edit: Forgot to add generally when you upgrade your graphics its not to obtain higher resolution is to play the games that is supported by the graphics card.  DX10 for Crisys...

You couldn't be more wrong. At high resolutions like 2560x1600, the 8800GTX will really struggle.

Also, if you can't see the difference between 1240x1024 and 1600x1200 you must have very poor eyesight.
