I'm looking for the right PCI graphics card, I'm going from AGP ->>> PCI, so I'm not to familiar with them as far as performance, which is the better buy... I'm looking for something that can play 2142/bf2 at full quality, 1024 x 768 res, maybe slightly higher... any suggestions? My price range is in the 200's
Well what are the specs of you computer. Specifically your motherboard?(The rest of your computer would help too.) A budget rang is also needed.
Well, I'm looking to get a completely new motherboard... I'm still debating which mobo i want... however I'm looking at these...

Yes, they're server mobo's, but i heard their performance is great...

Well if I were you I would go Core 2 duo not AMD. While AMD is still a great CPU and still holds the best performance to price ration. Core 2 duo still is the best power you can buy. But if its around 200 so I would say a 7900GS.

That would be your best bet for vid cards.

dude do NOT buy any of those boards cause they only support 939 the processor is AM2.ReDevilJR wrote:

get this board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813127225
Make sure everything you get is compatible with every other piece of hardware you will get. Now when you say PCI card do you mean PCI express? PCI is different than PCI express.
Absolutely. An E6300 will demolish that X2 with a bit of OCing.Brizzzer wrote:

As for GPUs, a 7900 would be your best bet, but you can get a 7900GT for that price.

Slightly better than a GS.
... the board you specified is socket 939 to...... the proc he wants is AM2.....as you said yourself...The#1Spot wrote:

to ReDevilJR.... don't get a server board....... and just make sure all the components are compatible.
if you have a AM2 processor you need a AM2 mobo... if you go for the core 2 duo (775) you will need a mobo with socket 775...
as for the GPU i would go with a 7900gs, or x1950pro.
also what type of RAM you got?
If you can wait for about a month, the budget/mainstream Nvidia DX10 cards will be coming. Future proofing...
I have the same CPU, although i know the C2D's are better it still works fine for me and BF2.ReDevilJR wrote:

okay, what's the difference between PCI and PCI express? which is better? the boards above support.

why not server boards? A co-worker uses them, he sais they're really good.

pci graphics don't really exist anymore.. graphics have moved to pci-e the board Will have pci-e and pci slots..
pci-e for graphics.... and pci-for sound cards and network card etc....
an no there not compatible.. there different sockets
you can get a server board if you want...... but i wouldn't.. do you want me to post links to a compatible mobo proc setup ?
unfortunately every AM2 mobo i have looked at only has 240pin RAM, so you will need to change that CPU to a 939 socket.

PCI-E is faster and newer, use that for your graphics card, PCI are for all your other stuff like sound cards etc
they are, hmph. alright...
sure, thanks.claor wrote:

it appears as though the cheaper one is faster? could you guys explain that to me? thanks! it appears as the GT has more pixel pipelines.
get the GT its only 10 bucks more and its far better.ReDevilJR wrote:

the GS is clocked a bit higher but i would pay the extra 10 bucks for the GT defiantly.

Ok, here's another question, i have an IDE connection to my hard drive, is it noticeably faster to get the Sata's?
Last edited by ReDevilJR (2007-01-25 18:01:11)
so you only have a ide hard drive... cause sata is better. umm well not sure, if you want to spend more money on a new hard drive go for it. are you in need for a new harddrive ?
what wrong with the mobo i specified ? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813131568
