Liquid Nitrogen/Dry Ice overclocking

I saw something on toms hardware and was wondering if this is possiable to use to cool your CPU.

Is this possiable for a person to do with items from a hardware store and liquid nitrogen?

I have access to N2, I'm just wondering if any CPU, Mobo can be nitogen cooled.

urm im thinking it will kill every componant in your system, but i could be wrong.

It will definatly destroy everything with moving parts, so thats hard drive, CD drive, DVD drive, fans.

Wires would go really brittle.

Also i dont think silicon works very well as a semiconductor at -200 degrees.

hmm, its just for the cpu, so id take the heatsink fan off, make a copper tube, fill it with N2, put a cap on it and use silicon as a conduction over the cpu?

It has to be topped up every few minutes.. so playing 2142 would cause a rather large inconvenience, not to mention the cost of the nitrogen. Times a billion. Each hour.

Can you even get liquid nitrogen? I live in the US & don't know for sure but that doesn't sound like something you could just go to the hardware store & buy.

It'd be so much more of a pain to try and keep that liquid nitrogen from boiling that it's not even worth it. Not to mention your computer parts would probably crack because they'd be frozen. You'd probably have better chances finding computer parts that will work when completely soaked in water so that you can just throw your comp in an ice bath...

actually the N2 is craze is sweeping through the hardcore oc growd. for example kingpin used N2 to oc the 680i and quad-core to ungodly speeds, breaking a new WR.

it's not very pratical and expensive as hell, you gotta buy the n2 by the barrel, or quarts of it. which is like 4.95 a quart..adds up fast.

chilled water or TEC cooler is the way to go for less money and very good oc if you wanna do extreme

i personally use water on one rig and it was fun and all.. and gets me down 9 deg on a pretty good oc of 1100 on my e6600. but my next build will be air, i dont have the time to deal with liquid

only guys who really do N2 or phase setups, either have fat wallets, or more likely are sponsred by say koolance or danger den , aestek, etc

Absolutely no point, unless you're using your computer to do massive scientific number crunching. Can't say much for the longevity, though. Air cooling meets my needs. Liquid cooling should meet yours.
