Okay, so I'll start off with system specs, keep in mind that this setup has been running for a good 1-2 months now with no problems.

Mobo: Evga 680i SLi mobo
CPU: E6600
Ram: DDR2 800 Patriot ram (2 gb)
Gfx card: 7900 gt ko sc
Harddrive: Seagate 120 gb with NCQ - dont know if that matters (SATA)

if you need anything else just ask.. but here's the deal.

I took my computer down to rearrange some cables and take off a really annoying high pitched fan on my northbridge chipset, then booted it back up.  It went through the ram check and listen my hard drive and everything, then went to the "Norton Go Back" screen and then a screen popped up and said

"Hard Drive Read Error  Press Ctrl Alt Delete to continue"

So I pressed it and it restarted and did the same thing.  So I think shit, my hard drive just crashed.

Now, I'm on my brother's computer and I have the SATA drive hooked up and it recognizes it in the BIOS and during boot, but when I go into "my computer" and try to look inside of it, it says it isn't there...'

However, when I look in the Device Manager, it says that it's plugged in.

Basically, where do I go from here???

Any help will be much appreciated

Call me superstitious, but E6600s seem to always be in the computers that have something fail or become hard to maintain.

well it's not working in a computer with an AMD cpu either so I doubt it has anything to do with the processor...

Sounds too easy but you did check the wiring on the hard disc, right? Just the first thing that came to mind, sorry

Besides that it sounds like it's something internal with the hard drive, if it's a new drive I'd suggest checking your warranty & if it's older maybe a data recovery/hard drive fixer place.

Of course I'm no computer expert though...

Are you getting this error during post or when in windows?

Have you tried to go into safe mode (Can't if you getting it during post).

First thing to do is put in your windows CD and try a recovery (Or repair).

If that's not a go, you may have a bad master system file, that would require a reformat of the drive.

If after reformatting you still get the error, bad HD.

Stick to Western Digital (IMO), Only HD's I use, and I build a bunch of comps a year and have yet (Knock on wood) have ever had one fail on me.

If the HD is bad, with any luck you can return it to were you bought it.

Yeah its during post, it's a seagate HD, and I've never heard anything bad.  But I think that it got messed up when i was moving it around to fix a while.  Luckily I have an uncle who works at microsoft and can get me windows vista - ultimate for 80 bucks, so getting a new OS won't be a hassle   Thanks for your help
