Sometimes when i'm flying on wake I steal the chinese jet, and I fly around getting kills (as useual) when all of a sudden I get a "you have been punished for a teamkill." I have no idea how this happens because I was useing the missles, and I didn't think it was possible to kill fellow jets with the heat seaking missles. My theory is that when I fired my missle, and missed the enemy jet causing the missle locked on to (if not, then just hit) the fellow jet.

Any ideas?

it is possible for your missiles to hit friendly jets

Even when you can't lock on to them?

Stray missles, very common for J-10's chillax.

Especially the missile-magnet F35B's.

They are HEAT seaking missiles. Once fired at a LOCKED target, the seeker head remains active even when it misses the LOCKED target.

There is a hit box issue that allows the missile to veer away from the primary target JUST before impact. Something about the HEAT object location and the plane's model mesh (Blame DICE). The missiles then search for the next HEAT source which can be ANY aircraft. Oddly enough the missiles do a better job hitting secondary targets. I cant count how many times if fired missiles at a chopper and see them flyby; but these same missiles when fired at an airplane will veer and hit the same chopper every time.

This is why experienced pilots will not fire their HEAT missiles while trying to save their friend from an enemy jet because if your missiles miss the enemy then most likely they will hit their friend.

Yeah, your missiles are hitting friendly jet or chopper.
It's the same in Essex/stinger.  You look....friendlies have a big X, enemy are a box with tone(sound).  You fire.  Missile goes into the big X...*punished for a teamkill* WTF~?!!!11

What I do...if chasing enemy jet towards the carrier, don't fire missiles after him unless you are VERY sure that your own decks are clear.  Wait until past/turned away from carrier.  Also, if come up on two choppers dogfighting, I would only use MGs, firing missiles is a dance with the devil.  If sitting in AA and watching two dogfighting choppers, I don't fire.

It's not the most aggressive way to play, others will give you different advice.  But it works for me, and as you have found out most online nubs will punish a TK, even though most of the time it's an accident, and that leads to you getting kicked for accidents.
