I want to update because it says the max speed that the max speed of the processor in the BIOS scanner is 2.4GHz which is new info to me. Also it says that the AGP is only 4x (or AGP 2.0), although I have known that for a while. Perhaps a BIOS update is in order. I already scanned it and sent in the results and information to the Award website so they can contact me on if a BIOS update is available. Does anyone know if there is a later version than Award 6.0? Just so I know if there is anything to possibly expect.
These limits are quite possibly coming from your motherboard. Just flashing the BIOS may not change any of that. Check your mobo stats to be sure.
Unfortunately this mobo (ASUS P4B266LA) doesn't have any stats anywhere, that BIOS scanner was the most information i've ever seen on this mobo really. I suppose i'm fine with that limitation on the processor anyway, less money for me to spend and i'm sure this will still be in stock even once the price drops a little bit more.chittydog wrote:

Argh, the ignorance, it burns.
Better drivers will not make your motherboard specs change, especially since I'm guessing this was a pre-built from Dell or something. Of course there is no later version of Award 6.0, and you would probably find the latest version on the Award website you said you went to.

No, they make you register and all this pointless shit rather than simply find your mobo and download the proper update.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

If you're looking for a BIOS update, go to your motherboard manufacturer's site, not Award.
They don't have ANYTHING for the P4B266-LA but they have one for the P4B266. Would that be okay? The Stillhouse Kid wrote:

Did the mobo come in a HP machine? If so then I doubt it would be compatible. Even if there is a BIOS update available for that particular board, it's not going to make a difference in performance._j5689_ wrote:

That'd pretty much guarantee there's no BIOS update. Makers like HP, Dell, etc. only release and BIOS revision if there's a major problem to fix, and they're not concerned with adding support for upgrading to a faster CPU and whatnot. As long as it works with what they put in it when they sold it to you that's all they cover.
