Alright so here is the deal.  My clan has a server, the problem is that we have tried multiple ways to get it populated but it just seems to be failing.  Once in awhile we will get it populated and everything and thats awesome, but i know a couple clan members and I are gettin pretty frustrated.  So i ask you guys, especially you guys out there who have successful servers that are populated the majority of the time....

we had a 24 slot one, I/O...but that didnt work much at all...so i pushed the head people of the clan to get a server that is atleast of the 32 slot variety, and put air and city maps in the rotation rather than just city...and i guess that is the path we will be attempting now once we get everything situated ont he server but...i really am lookin for your guys input...

how do you do it?

is it the name?....the slots?....the maps?....a mixture?....if so, what type of server name should be used i.e. - "24/7 blah blah" or what?!

please be serious in your comments and what not, im seriously lookin for some input and ideas.

no, we dont abuse admin at all...we are very fair.  Like we give warning to the "No Uncap attacking" and stuff....we will always warn before any action is taken...because we had the power hungry admins too....so we do not abuse our power at all...i know that.

As much as we all claim to hate it the only servers I see constantly full nowadays are the dreaded 24/7 Kark =FF OFF=

Having said that if you can tell me what kind of server your hoping for (inf/air/mix) and the size, then I can type you up a rotation that should get a few players.
well, i think the majority of us clan members are hoping for a 32-64 slot server, with a map rotation that is mixed between some city and air....

i just recently really pushed the head guys in the clan to get a 32 person server, im not sure if they def got one but from what im hearing, they did...and im pushing for a better rotation...as of right now, its I/O....city maps....

How many active members do you have? Currently my clan has a 24 man ranked IO server w/ city maps that has a monthly uptime percentage of 98.3%. whatwe do is have six guys jump in for awhile and keep it going.

Its rare to find a server running 16 size maps like fu she, dalian, gulf, masthuur, strike, sharqi and shonghua. Try playing Shounghua IO as a sniper....cum...oops

Well how about you advertise city maps only a few days out of the week, and then air maps another day. I don't think you should do IO because I am ALWAYS looking for good servers WITH tanks/vehicles. And make sure FF is off! I hate driving around in my tank in the heat of battle, and a friendly drives behind me only to ram me, blow me up, and I get punished for a teamkill!

Or the many times I run over a guy of mine behind me as I try to take cover from an enemy apc & tank to repair.... All the Negative points/ team kills/ noobs bitching about you killing them or running them over....It really bugs a person.

You want a server that ill always be populated..... 24/7 Knife Pistol IT WILL STAY FULL !!!!

Then for a normal server... FF=OFF people always look for that, good admins, and for shure its got to be a nice server name so people will actually click on it .... 24/7 KARKAND FF=OFF will work, make a name with something you know people are looking for ....

Hey, you make a kick ass FF=OFF server that is a rotation of all city maps, even say songua stalemate and some 32 man china maps (most china maps, and I'll join!! (Just PM me when your ready to go.)

hmmm, i mean, if thats what is goin to get people in the server, you know, its def something i will consider...the rotation i mentioned to the guys with the power in my clan were these maps in no particular order (wake, karkand, sangua or however you spell that, sharqi, and oman) i think that was all of them...and 32-64 size maps...

what do you guys think...if i got that server up and running and guarentee that there are no power hungry admins  (im an admin so i make sure of it) and fairness all around...would you guys join?

i would do that, but we have some real good pilots and just well rounded guys who enjoy playin with vehicles and do ground pounding, i being one of them.  So we are tryin to find a happy medium for everyone, although thats not always easy.

Ok this is pretty good so far. Make sure you do Mashtur, thats a fun map w/ vehicles. And a good airmap would be Daqing Oilfield, There is a lot of Mobile AA and not so much Ground based aa (Actually, i dont recall any Ground AA) SO that makes it fun. More bombing if you dare, or focus more on dog fighting in the air. Dalian plant is great for jet lovers. There is hardly ANY Ground Based AA and NO Mobile AA. Jets among jets. Dragon Valley not so good. A lot of people hate how bright the sky is, choppers/jets have an issue with that.

Your clan should just bite the bullet for the sake of your server, and you should do a rotation of only City maps or any maps with no jets for a few days. Then do air maps next day, but not ALL airmaps the good ones (I guess maybe Dragon sometimes, Daqing, Dalian) Its gotta be fair to the people who like armor also (The good guys like me, will take the mobile AA rather then a tank/apc) So pick the ones with mobile AA...Gives us a chance on the ground!

i can give you the view from a player choosing the server he wants to play on!
          I first look for a good map, and it seems that the ones that are always full are 24/7 infantry playing the jalalabad, mash, kark rotation etc. also make sure your server has at least 6-8 people in it all the time, as people wont generally play an un-populated map and they wont to play a game and get points not hang around waiting to populate the server to play.

just my views, this is what i look for,

ps a 32 slot server is fine, most of the servers i play on are 32

good point...never really thought about that...i just thought maps like daqing and dalian were server killers...i guess its something to think about though.  maybe instate a "weekly mystery map" or something.

You could try running a poll on here with a list of Sever titles and rotations and see which gets the highest votes.....this site does seem to be the decision makers of the BF2 / BF2142 community

Put the words "High Points" in your server name, that'll draw folk in. Also, don't be stupid about rules. Your only rules should be no racists comments and no tking. Free for all on everything else, within reason. I hate playing on servers that say you can't attack uncaps. Those servers are gay because people are constantly kicked for no reason, whereas a server with no rule against attacking uncaps flourshes. Just my opinion.

Is there an isp that hosts the majority of servers for your area? If so put (not "insert name here") in the server name and that will do the trick. Most Australian clan servers do this as the majority of people here play on one of two server lists ( gamearena and internode) who host like 30 or so servers each. Look at the BF2s au server name on the front page to get an idea of what i mean.

If you dont have anything like this just put (not insomnia) at the end of the clan name.  (only American server i know of)

Failing that, make the rotation something like five city maps in a row, then five air maps in a row.  People will come in, play a few maps, then leave when it switches over... but then the other guys will come in, etc.

Another thing I consider when playing a map: how many rounds on that map?  It's frustrating--especially for people running close to the lower end requirements for the game--to load a new map every other round.  Push it to at least 4 rounds per map, maybe 3 if you want, but the default 2 is a major turn off for some low-end hardware players.

see with me...i get annoyed if its more than 2 because i dont like constantly playin the same map all the time, but i do see where your coming from though...i remember when i had my old computer it would take a LONG TIME to load a map.  I guess its def something to think about...

I agree with him. No rules is a pretty good way to go. But it has to be within reason, Say no Artillery on heli pads at uncaps and airstrips. And no constant raping by a Heli....But if you got a lot of good players this isn't that big of a deal. An AT rocket to a chopper, and a teammate with a PKM is enough to take it down if they are raping.
