Don't use Cold Water, use luke warm and gradually turn it cold, Loss of Feeling, you shouldn't have any unless it was a 3rd degree burn and the nerve endings are gone, Scar, depends, how big the blister is and how well you take care of it.

Edit: spelling
Thats a first!! luke warm....hmmm...help the cooking effect ......cold slows the cooking effect allowing for effective treatment in the Golden Hour!

Thats the first time Ive heard to use warm !

DON'T BURST THE BLISTER!!
If the burn is bad enough and you use straight cold water you can send your body into shock, luke warm is around room temp, to allow even cool down. Just like when you get a bad case of sun burn, don't jump into a shower with the water cold as hell, you gradually cool the water down.
I'm not trying to down you. I am just quoting my training from the Marines(Combat Life Saver/First Responder)

Edit: Joker is right, LEAVE THE BLISTER INTACTED

Does anyone have any words of comfort/assurance/experience?
Best way to take your mind of the finger is by smashing your kneecap in with a hammer.

It'll hurt like hell but at least you wont be arsed about your finger anymore.

i burnt almost my whole lower arm while working in a restaurant and getting a BIG splash of oil over it. it was a severe 2nd degree burn and it has almost completely disappeared. you have to cool it with running water, but NOT cold water, it should be a bit lukewarm. also you should use the sivadene cream or anything similar, teflonshadow already mentioned this and that stuff really works. good luck

Has it been an hour yet?

I thought a blister was the same thing as to having the skin separate from the finger. Thanks guys for the tips. I'll see how it develops.

I got badly burnt in a fuel fire last summer, sustained heavy burns to left arm and neck.  Doctors gave me a water based moisturiser to apply 3 times a day, and informed me to maintain flexibility and movement in the affected area. Also, try to avoid covering it, especially in synthetic material.

Yeah but I'm afraid constantly moving it causes the blister to burst. The skin feels really tight right now.

I'll seriously ban ya for 3 days...

Come back with a medical certificate.

EDIT: Whatever, just go to the local medicos and get it checked. I'm going to bed... hopefully you're finger will still be there when I wake up.

Your math skills astound me.

To the OP:

If you're serious about it feeling like the skin has become detached from the tissue beneath, you should probably see a doctor.  that sounds like a 3rd degree burn, and no matter how small that could end up being serious.  Since you survived long enough to come onto a game forum and tell us about it, the only big thing to worry about is infection.  Follow the advice given about cleaning the wound, and keeping it dressed, and if you're still worried, go see a damn doctor.

Just a tip: Put honey over the burn. It should ease the pain, I used to do it.

I had hot glue from a hot glue gun MELT the skin on my right middle finger, for about 2 weeks I has skin "goo" and then it eventually healed ...I have no scar from it. Now, hot oil, if the skin is coming off and you can feel it then you have a 3rd degree burn and should go to the hospital ASAP, if its a massive blister then get a plastic sandwich bag and put cool water in it and rest it gently on your finger. BTW, technically a blister does separate from the skin beneath as there is a layer of skin-salt water (blister juice) and then dead skin. Its the bottom layer of skin that causes the pain. I know this sounds strange, but do you have any pics?

DO NOT COVER IN ANYTHING. Just use water. Covering it will cause it to retain its heat.

I'm not sure what you mean by "if the skin is coming off and you can feel it". But when I said it in the OP, I meant that initially I lost sensation in the layer of skin burnt (and it looked whiter and slightly thicker than the unburnt skin around it) so it felt and appeared as if the layer of skin wasn't attached to the finger beneath. But the skin isn't actually like a loose sac around the finger (sorry about the graphical description).

I don't have any pics, but besides the blister that has come up the burnt skin looks red/grey.

Thanks Mcminty for your forceful persuasion. And I've been to a doctor.

Turn it to your advantage...use the other hand...will feel like someone else is doing it!!
Someone else who doesen't know what they're doing.

Anyway, run it under cold water, angling it so the water flows over the burn and off the skin. It'll hurt like a bitch, then go numb, and then hurt like a bitch again. After a few days, it'll swell up and blister. Then it'll scar, and eventually it will peel off and leave fresh new skin underneath. Don't even need to involve anyone.
Key is WATER, not any oil or cream. Just ordinary cold tap water.
Isn't the healing process amazing?

Also, let this be a lesson to you. BE CAREFUL IN FUTURE!
Just like how I now know not to cut towards myself (almost sliced my thumb off at the joint when a knife slipped) and to step away from falling things that will hurt (burnt thumb and forefinger badly catching a soldering iron by the tip after dropping it).

EDIT:
And listen to me, damn you. Not only have I done the same thing myself repeatedly, but I know first aid.
Yet another thing being a Scout taught me - burns hurt.
Along with how to read OS maps, how to walk miles without noticing the pain in your feet, how to burn things so you get a big pile of hot embers to cook on, and how to shop for a watergun.
